Democrats Block Trump’s U.S. Attorney Nominees—Because Crime Pays in Their Playbook

If you ever doubted that Democrats are more interested in politics than protecting American communities, look no further than their latest stunt in the Senate. President Donald Trump has nominated 10 U.S. attorneys—men and women already vetted and approved by the Judiciary Committee. These are the top federal prosecutors who go after drug traffickers, human smugglers, and violent criminals. But instead of confirming them swiftly, Democrats, led by Senator Dick Durbin, slammed the brakes.

Traditionally, these confirmations are handled quickly in a single voice vote. After all, they’re noncontroversial law enforcement roles. But not this time. Durbin objected, meaning each nominee must now slog through endless debate, cloture votes, and roll calls. The result? Weeks—if not months—of wasted floor time while Democrats gleefully jam up Trump’s entire agenda.

And let’s not forget: Durbin didn’t just hold up 10 nominees. He slapped a “blanket hold” on all 93 U.S. attorney positions before Trump had even one confirmed. Think about that—blocking people who haven’t even been nominated yet. This is the same Durbin who, under Biden, scolded Republicans for delaying his party’s nominees, insisting that public safety demanded quick confirmations. Funny how “public safety” only matters when it’s Democrats in power.

The hypocrisy is staggering. Just last year Durbin was crying that you “can’t prosecute the case if you don’t have the U.S. Attorney there to lead the effort.” Now he’s perfectly fine with leaving those very seats empty—all to score political points against Trump. Meanwhile, fentanyl is killing thousands of Americans, violent crime is rising, and border chaos is flooding our communities. But hey, the Democrats’ priority is slowing Trump down, not keeping families safe.

Senator Chuck Grassley has tried for months to negotiate, but Democrats won’t budge. Why? Because obstruction is the strategy. Delay everything, blame Republicans, and hope voters forget when Democrats were the ones holding justice hostage.

At the end of the day, it’s simple: President Trump wants law and order. Democrats want chaos if it helps their political prospects. The American people see through it. And no matter how much Senate Democrats clog the pipes, Trump’s fight for safety, accountability, and justice will keep moving forward. America deserves prosecutors ready to put criminals behind bars—not senators playing politics with public safety.
