The swamp stench just got worse. A Justice Department watchdog revealed that disgraced former FBI counterintelligence chief Charles McGonigal secretly warned a Chinese energy group with direct business ties to the Biden family about looming arrests—compromising a major criminal investigation in the process.
McGonigal, already sentenced to prison for working with a Russian oligarch, now stands accused of something just as explosive: tipping off an Albanian official working with CEFC China Energy Fund Committee, a firm that paid millions to Hunter and James Biden. The official admitted McGonigal told him in 2017 that the FBI was “looking into” CEFC. That intel was quickly passed to CEFC executives Patrick Ho and Ye Jianming—both at the center of federal corruption probes.
Patrick Ho, whom Hunter Biden himself described as the “f–king spy chief of China,” paid Hunter a $1 million retainer for legal “advice.” Meanwhile, documents show Hunter and his uncle James Biden hauled in nearly $5 million from CEFC between 2017 and 2018. Convenient, isn’t it?
The inspector general’s report outlines how McGonigal’s betrayal undermined the FBI’s investigation. By leaking sensitive plans to CEFC operatives, he essentially gave China’s partners in crime a head start. And while Ho was eventually arrested on bribery and money laundering charges, the damage to U.S. national security—and the credibility of the FBI—was severe.
Adding to the mess, the report revealed James Biden personally contacted a retired Secret Service agent in 2017, asking him to check whether Ho had an active arrest warrant. The agent warned that warrant searches are “sensitive” and often don’t appear in databases, but the fact that the Bidens were even digging shows just how close they were to CEFC’s shady network.
The DOJ watchdog didn’t mince words: McGonigal “intentionally damaged an important criminal case, violated the public trust, and compromised the integrity of the FBI.” That’s putting it lightly. He betrayed the American people, undermined national security, and protected a Chinese firm funneling cash to the Biden family.
This isn’t just about one crooked FBI official. This is about the glaring pattern: foreign money, corrupt influence, and the Biden name popping up right in the middle of it.
