Chicago is about to see a very different kind of “windy” storm—one powered by federal agents, tactical vehicles, and a president who actually enforces immigration law. Despite the bluster from Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, the Trump administration is moving full speed ahead with its immigration crackdown in the city.
According to a federal memo obtained by CBS News, the Department of Homeland Security has coordinated with the Department of Defense to stage 250 federal agents and 140 vehicles at Naval Station Great Lakes, the largest military base in Illinois. The base will serve as the command post and tactical hub for upcoming “removal operations” targeting illegal immigrants in the Chicago metro area. Supplies, medical gear, and non-lethal munitions are being stockpiled, and personnel have already begun arriving.
The operation is expected to last at least 30 days, but no one doubts it could stretch longer. That’s exactly what terrifies Illinois Democrats, who’ve spent more time protecting illegal aliens than protecting their own citizens.
Mayor Johnson, in peak radical form, went on MSNBC and urged Chicagoans to “rise up” against federal law enforcement—effectively calling for violence against the very people tasked with enforcing U.S. law. Not content with reckless rhetoric, Johnson also issued an executive order telling local police not to cooperate with ICE or DHS. Translation: side with lawbreakers, not law enforcement.
Governor Pritzker hasn’t been much better, threatening lawsuits and vowing to use “every peaceful tool” to fight the deployment of federal officers. Former Biden official Pete Buttigieg chimed in too, decrying the use of a military base for immigration enforcement—because apparently securing America’s borders is less important than appeasing open-borders activists.
But President Trump isn’t backing down. He’s already proven he’s willing to use federal muscle to restore law and order, as he did earlier this summer when he deployed the National Guard and Marines to stop violent riots in Los Angeles. The Chicago operation is just the next step in his broader campaign to put citizens first and end the chaos Democrats pretend doesn’t exist.
Here’s the bottom line: while Illinois Democrats cry about lawsuits and “resistance,” Trump is doing what leaders are supposed to do—defend the border, enforce the law, and protect American communities. Chicago may be about to get a crash course in what real leadership looks like.
