Feds Subpoena Hasan Piker, CodePink Activist Over Cuba Trips Linked to Communist Regime

Federal officials are finally taking a closer look at a group of activists and influencers who proudly traveled to communist Cuba earlier this year — because apparently cozying up to a dictatorship while waving anti-American slogans online might actually attract attention from Washington after all.

According to reports, federal subpoenas were issued to left-wing political influencer Hasan Piker and CodePink cofounder Susan Medea Benjamin as part of an ongoing investigation into possible violations of U.S. sanctions laws tied to support for Cuba’s communist regime. The subpoenas were reportedly sent by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, better known as OFAC — the agency responsible for enforcing sanctions against hostile foreign governments.

The investigation centers around a March trip to Cuba involving delegations from the so-called “Nuestra América Convoy,” translated as “Our America Convoy,” a network described as being made up of communist sympathizers, activists, and influencers. Participants allegedly transported supplies to the ruling Communist Party of Cuba while publicly bragging about the trip online. Because nothing says “grassroots activism” quite like helping a regime that has spent decades crushing free speech and imprisoning dissidents.

Federal authorities are now seeking financial records, communications, and logistical details connected to the trip, including whether the travelers coordinated with Cuban government personnel or entities while on the island. The administrative subpoenas, referred to as “Requests for Information,” reportedly focus on whether U.S. sanctions were violated through financing, organizing, or delivering goods tied to the Cuban regime.

Hasan Piker, widely known for his far-left political commentary and anti-capitalist rhetoric, now finds himself under scrutiny alongside Medea Benjamin, a longtime anti-war activist and prominent figure in the radical activist organization CodePink. Critics have long accused these activist networks of romanticizing authoritarian socialist governments while attacking the United States at every opportunity — usually from the comfort of capitalism-funded platforms, of course.

The probe highlights growing concerns inside the federal government over activist groups potentially operating in ways that benefit adversarial communist regimes while skirting American law. Cuba remains under strict U.S. sanctions due to decades of repression, political imprisonment, and human rights abuses carried out by the Communist Party.

For many Americans, the investigation serves as a reminder that supporting hostile regimes isn’t simply a political statement — there are legal boundaries involved, especially when dealing with sanctioned governments. And while some activists may try to frame the scrutiny as political persecution, federal agencies appear focused on whether actual laws were broken.

At the end of the day, Americans are increasingly tired of watching privileged activists glorify communist systems that millions around the world have desperately tried to escape. Accountability matters, and if laws were violated, the public deserves answers.
