JD Vance Challenges Dems to Denounce Mamdani for Campaigning with 1993 WTC Bombing 'Unindicted Co-Conspirator'

Vice President JD Vance made waves on Saturday when he took to social media to challenge Democrats over their hypocrisy regarding political violence, particularly focusing on New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. Vance, who had been delivering remarks at the United States Marine Corps' 250th Birthday Celebration at Camp Pendleton, didn’t miss the chance to weigh in on the growing controversy surrounding Mamdani’s campaign.

The controversy centers around a recent social media post by Mamdani, where he was seen smiling and posing arm-in-arm with Imam Siraj Wahhaj, a radical Muslim cleric linked to the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Wahhaj, though never indicted, was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the attack, which killed six people and injured more than a thousand. His connections to radical groups and his previous defense of terrorists have raised alarms among many, especially as he continues to hold significant influence within certain communities.

Vance wasted no time calling out the Democrats, writing in a tweet, “I’ve been reliably informed that Democrats are opposed to any kind of political violence, so I look forward to them universally condemning Zohran Mamdani for campaigning with an unindicted co-conspirator in a terrorist plot that killed 6 New Yorkers.” He didn’t stop there, sharing a damning New York Post article that detailed Mamdani’s appearance with Wahhaj, with the headline bluntly stating: “Mamdani appears smiling, arm-in-arm with unindicted ‘93 WTC bombing co-conspirator and terrorist apologist.”

Vance’s tweet calls out a glaring double standard. As he points out, the Democrats, who have been vocal in their condemnation of political violence, have remained conspicuously silent on Mamdani’s choice of campaign allies. The vice president’s comments are not just about Mamdani, but a broader critique of the far-left fringe of the Democratic Party, which, according to Vance, has become a key source of the political violence that has increasingly plagued the nation.

For Democrats, addressing Mamdani’s associations with Wahhaj would be uncomfortable at best—and politically damaging at worst. For many on the left, the far-left base, including radical factions and figures like Wahhaj, are seen as crucial to the party’s survival. This creates a dilemma for party leaders who want to distance themselves from political violence but have openly embraced these fringe elements.

Vance’s challenge is clear: will Democrats, who have repeatedly denounced political violence from conservative sides, finally take a stand against Mamdani’s troubling association with Wahhaj, or will they continue to overlook the ties to violent extremism that have been woven into their party’s fabric?

For now, it seems Democrats would prefer to ignore this inconvenient truth, but Vance’s public challenge has ensured it won’t be easy to do so. As the election season continues to heat up, Mamdani’s controversial campaign may end up being a much bigger problem for the Democrats than they’ve anticipated.
