Karine Jean-Pierre’s Stunning Reversal: Why She Left the Democratic Party Behind

Karine Jean-Pierre, former White House press secretary and once a loyal Democratic Party figure, has had enough. In a shocking excerpt from her new memoir, Independent, she opens up about her decision to leave the party, not just as a supporter, but as someone who had dedicated her career to it. And what’s her main gripe? The treatment of none other than Joe Biden, the man she had long defended.

It all started with a phone call from Biden, where he informed his team that he was dropping out of the 2024 race. According to Jean-Pierre, Biden was calm, even at peace with his decision, but she was far from it. "I was angry and sad. I was enraged and heartbroken that this man had given more than 50 years of his life to serving the American people, and in the end, he’d been treated poorly by members of his own party. It was horrible," she wrote, laying bare her disillusionment.

For years, Jean-Pierre had publicly stood by Biden, defending his physical and mental fitness. But when it became evident that his cognitive decline had become a liability for his party, the cracks started to show. She never thought Biden would exit the race, and the pressure from the Democratic Party for him to step down, especially after his underwhelming debate performance against Donald Trump, only added to her frustration.

The Democratic Party, Jean-Pierre explained, had shaped her life and career. From working on Barack Obama’s campaign to making history as the first Black woman and openly queer person to be press secretary, her entire journey had been intertwined with the party. But all that changed with Biden’s treatment. "Never had I considered leaving the party until now," she confided.

And it wasn’t just about Biden. Jean-Pierre blasted the party for launching a "firing squad" against him, pushing him off the ticket after weeks of public pressure. The turning point came when she realized she could no longer align herself with a party she felt had betrayed its leader. As she prepared to make her first public appearance after Biden's announcement on The View, the decision was clear: "You know what? I’m going to become an independent. I don’t think I can stomach being in the Democratic Party anymore."

Karine Jean-Pierre’s story is one of betrayal, disappointment, and a complete break from the party she had devoted her career to. But while many would wallow in anger, she turned her disillusionment into action, deciding to fight for what she believes in—without being shackled by a party she no longer trusted. And honestly, good for her. It’s refreshing to see someone put principle before party loyalty, even when it’s a tough decision.
