Swallow the Bitter Pill, Curtis Sliwa — Step Aside for the Greater Good

Well, here it is. As much as it burns to write this, it's time for Curtis Sliwa to face the reality staring him in the face: the only way to save New York City from the looming disaster of a Zohran Mamdani mayoralty is for him to step out of the race.

Now, before anyone jumps down my throat, yes, Sliwa is absolutely right—New York didn’t land in this mess by accident, and it’s not all his fault. But in a situation as dire as this, fault doesn't really matter. The numbers do.

Sliwa, bless his heart, is trailing far behind in every poll—consistently sitting at third place, with no plausible chance of winning. And let’s be honest, his staying in the race could end up handing Mamdani a win. Polls show that if Sliwa drops out, Andrew Cuomo might just have enough support to close the gap and give Mamdani a real fight. But if Curtis stays in and Andrew loses due to a Sliwa-shaped hole in the vote, guess what? He'll bear the blame. Not the ideal scenario for anyone who truly cares about this city.

It’s a bitter pill, no doubt. But sometimes, for the sake of the bigger picture, tough decisions have to be made. And for the Republican Party, as painful as it is to admit, it's time to acknowledge that Sliwa, despite his hard work and dedication, isn't the right man for this race. Curtis has certainly put in the effort—he’s been all over the city, keeping himself well-briefed on the issues, and even left his trademark red beret at home to try and appeal to the broader electorate. But let’s face it: he’s an oddball, with a questionable past and zero experience running a city government.

The GOP’s county bosses rallied behind him, but honestly, if they had backed a candidate who wasn’t so out there—one with a more credible, mainstream appeal—we wouldn’t be in this mess. We'd probably be pushing for Cuomo to drop out instead of wondering what happens when Mamdani wins.

Look, Curtis, I get it. You’ve worked hard, you’ve done your part, and no one can take that away from you. But the cold hard truth is that Mamdani is poised to win, and if that happens, we’re all in for a world of hurt. His vision for the city is a one-way ticket to disaster, and it needs to be stopped before it’s too late.

So, Curtis, for the sake of the city you love, it’s time to swallow that bitter pill. Step aside, and let someone else take the wheel before it’s too late. The future of New York depends on it.
