Trump to Newsmax: Portland Unrest Is “Pure Insurrection”

President Donald Trump didn’t mince words Monday night when he called out the ongoing chaos in Portland, Oregon — describing the situation for what it truly is: “pure insurrection.” Appearing on Greg Kelly Reports on Newsmax, Trump blasted local Democrat leaders for allowing the city to descend into lawlessness while pretending everything is fine.

“If you take a look at what’s been going on in Portland, it’s been going on for a long time, and that’s insurrection. That’s pure insurrection,” Trump said. And he’s absolutely right. For years now, Portland has been the poster child for what happens when weak, far-left leadership replaces law and order with slogans and excuses.

Trump didn’t stop there. He took aim at Oregon’s Democrat Governor Tina Kotek, who seems to think denial counts as leadership. “And then you have a governor get up and say there’s absolutely nothing wrong. And you see these places are burning down like in Chicago with Pritzker,” Trump said, referring to Illinois Governor JB Pritzker — another Democrat presiding over a state that’s become synonymous with violence and chaos.

What’s really stunning is how the same people who spent years calling January 6 an “insurrection” suddenly lose their vocabulary when it’s their own cities on fire. Looting, arson, assaults on police — apparently, that’s just “protesting” when it benefits their narrative.

Trump made it clear that, while he has the authority to step in, he’d rather not have to use federal power to do what local leaders should be doing themselves. “Well, it is a way to get around it if we don’t have to use it. I wouldn’t use it,” he said, emphasizing restraint — something the media conveniently forgets when painting him as authoritarian.

The reality is simple: under Democrat leadership, Portland has become a cautionary tale. Businesses shuttered, streets overrun, police demoralized. And all the while, the politicians responsible act like nothing’s wrong.

Trump is right — this isn’t “protest,” it’s an attack on civilization itself. And until someone with real backbone steps in, cities like Portland will keep burning while Democrat leaders keep pretending it’s all just fine.

Leadership means standing up for law and order — something Trump has never shied away from.
