The audacity is breathtaking. No American who endured the radical ideological assault of the past few years should permit Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow Democrats to simply giggle away the societal chaos they unleashed, rebranding it as "Woke 1" and casually declaring it "crazy." For them to move on with a dismissive chuckle, just because their extreme agenda has become an electoral liability, is an insult to every community they harmed.
Image CreditABC/YouTubeIn a recent television interview, Ocasio-Cortez was pressed on the litany of divisive, anti-American declarations made by now-former Democrat gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong – statements that included bemoaning the food service industry's "deep roots in white supremacy," despite Hong's own non-white background and ownership of a ramen restaurant. Ocasio-Cortez's response? A flippant dismissal. "She's moved away from it," stated the Congresswoman, before delivering the punchline with a hearty laugh: "And I have a local city councilman that has this saying: 'Woke 1 was crazy.'"
She then added, with disarming ease, that while the discussions of 2020 were "quite fruitful," the "rhetoric in that time is not rhetoric that we would use today." Of course not! That "fruitful" rhetoric, the rallying cry of "Woke 1," coincided with a devastating 30 percent spike in the U.S. murder rate and sharp increases across virtually all other categories of violent and property crime. The "defund the police" movement, championed by Democrats, left American communities vulnerable, terrorized, and mourning. Now, they want to pretend it was just a youthful indiscretion, a phase gone "crazy."
This convenient recategorization of their radical past as "Woke 1" will not suffice. If Ocasio-Cortez and other Democrats are truly ready to disavow the destructive policies they branded themselves with for years, they cannot be allowed to evade accountability with a wink and a smile. Americans deserve specific answers. They must be compelled to articulate precisely which policies they no longer support, and why.
If they're no longer in favor of abolishing ICE, do they now support its funding? How much? Do they still endorse distributing taxpayer money based on race, under the guise of reparations? Do they continue to believe that "racial equity" is a valid reason to decline prosecuting "nonviolent" crimes like drug dealing and looting, unleashing chaos on our streets? Do they still champion irreversible opposite-sex hormones for minors, or doctors performing mastectomies on healthy teenage girls? What about vaccine mandates, or allowing biological men into women's private spaces? Can they name a single illegal alien they would be in favor of deporting? And how many millions more migrants would they permit to cross our Southern border, unvetted and unconstrained?
Democrats may now find it politically expedient to label everything they once championed as "crazy." Yet, their actions, their legislative proposals, and their unwavering silence on core issues provide no tangible evidence of a genuine shift. Americans are watching, and we demand real answers, not just rhetorical gymnastics. This nation cannot afford another era of 'crazy' policies disguised as 'progress,' only to be laughed off when the damage becomes undeniable. Accountability for 'Woke 1' is not just a demand; it's a necessary step to restore common sense, law and order, and American values to our society.
