A taxpayer-funded California university reportedly worked alongside a United Nations agency to train Mexican judicial officials on implementing LGBT-focused policies inside the country’s legal system, according to records obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The documents show that more than 220 Mexican judges, secretaries, and court officers participated in a virtual course hosted by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law between October and November 2022. The program focused on promoting gay and transgender rights within Mexico’s judicial system.
The course was organized through UCLA’s Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Law and Public Policy in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Mexico’s Federal Judiciary Council, the government body that previously oversaw the nation’s courts before later reforms shifted its authority elsewhere.
According to the materials obtained through a public records request and translated by the DCNF, the training specifically targeted officials working throughout Mexico’s judicial branch. Critics are now raising concerns about why an American public university — funded in part by U.S. taxpayers — was involved in shaping ideological and cultural policies inside another nation’s legal institutions.
The involvement of the United Nations Population Fund is also drawing attention, particularly among conservatives who have long criticized global organizations for pushing progressive social agendas internationally while bypassing public debate and democratic accountability. Because apparently the U.N. now believes court systems around the world need mandatory diversity seminars too.
The UCLA Williams Institute has become widely known for advocating LGBT legal policies and producing research focused on sexual orientation and gender identity issues. Its collaboration with Mexican judicial authorities highlights how American academic institutions increasingly play a role in exporting progressive activism abroad, often under the banner of “human rights” or “inclusion.”
The partnership comes at a time when many voters across the United States and Latin America are pushing back against globalist influence in domestic institutions, particularly in education, law, and government policy.
