The city allegedly funded elaborate decorations for the Islamic religious celebration of Ramadan, including banners and a public park crescent moon display. Disturbingly, this comes while similar requests for Christian and Jewish holiday recognition have been ignored.
"By selectively permitting and promoting religious expression for Muslims but denying similar expression for Christians and Jews, as set forth in this Complaint, Defendants have conveyed and effected governmental preference for one faith tradition over another," the lawsuit powerfully states.
The suit directly targets Dearborn’s Democrat Mayor Abdullah Hammoud and the city, accusing them of flagrantly violating the constitutional rights of non-Muslims. Further investigation by Cleveland revealed the city spent thousands of taxpayer dollars on these Islamic religious decorations and even created Ramadan-themed T-shirts for the police department, a stark governmental endorsement. Records also indicate Mayor Hammoud held a private religious event, reportedly paid for with city funds.
According to the lawsuit, the city "has never commissioned a comparable City-sponsored street light, banner, or park display program to mark Easter, Passover, Christmas, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, or any other Christian or Jewish observance." This glaring disparity underscores the alleged pattern of discrimination.

He boldly proclaimed, "We will build America on the basis of moral civilization and Islam. What they have is no civilization. It is nothing but worldly life, nothing but technology. For them, civilization means killing nations and plundering their resources, even if it means killing all the people."
