Looks like karma came jogging through Foley Square. Democratic socialist and New York City mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani got a taste of what happens when you spend months spewing anti-Israel rhetoric — you eventually run into someone who’s had enough.
On Friday, a protester chased Mamdani out of a downtown Manhattan park, shouting “antisemite!” as security scrambled to rush the candidate into his car. The fiery exchange, caught on video, shows the man demanding Mamdani denounce Hezbollah and Sharia — two topics Mamdani’s campaign has been conveniently silent about.
The timing couldn’t be worse for him. Mamdani is already facing serious questions about who’s funding his campaign — and the list isn’t exactly filled with Little League boosters and bake-sale donors. According to reports, the self-described socialist has raked in nearly $16 million, more than any of his opponents, and boasts a $5 million war chest heading into November’s election. Not bad for a “man of the people,” huh?
Here’s where it gets interesting. New York’s public financing system matches small-dollar donations up to eight times for the first $250, giving every local contribution a massive boost. But among Mamdani’s donors are some eyebrow-raising groups. The Islamic Circle of North America — whose members have ties to radical ideologies — funneled donations that ballooned from $1,300 to $7,700 thanks to the city’s matching scheme. Meanwhile, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) dropped a cool $100,000 into a Mamdani-aligned PAC. So much for transparency and moderation.
He’s also pulled in more than 2,000 donations from college and university employees, netting over $105,000 — or nearly $690,000 once boosted by matching funds. Apparently, academia’s far-left bubble is happy to bankroll a candidate who spends more time blaming Israel than fixing New York’s crumbling infrastructure.
And just in case anyone doubted where Mamdani stands, he recently marked the October 7 anniversary — a day when Hamas terrorists brutally murdered and kidnapped innocent civilians — by accusing Israel of “genocide.” Not a word of condemnation for terror, not an ounce of empathy for victims. Just the usual script of moral inversion we’ve come to expect from the radical Left.
Of course, Mamdani’s supporters — and the liberal media — are already trying to spin the story. Vox rushed to paint him as a “not-so-radical” community activist, as if supporting groups tied to anti-Israel extremism is just part of being “grassroots.” Right.
Friday’s scene at Foley Square wasn’t just a random outburst — it was a glimpse of what happens when ordinary citizens finally push back against politicians who excuse hate under the banner of “progress.”
New Yorkers are waking up, and it’s about time. If Mamdani wants to lead the city, maybe he should start by denouncing terrorism instead of cozying up to those who fund it. Until then, getting chased out of a park might just be the least of his problems. ??
