Another Democrat has stepped up to the grill — and social media once again recoiled in horror. Virginia’s new governor, Abigail Spanberger, is being roasted online after posting a photo of herself smiling over a grill with the caption, “Order up.” The problem? Whatever was on that grill didn’t exactly look like food fit for human consumption.
Spanberger, who campaigned as a moderate Democrat but has already been criticized for radical day-one policies like ending cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and restoring DEI programs, found herself mocked not for policy this time — but for what appeared to be shredded mystery meat over open flames.
The image quickly drew comparisons to the infamous grilling photo of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, which showed him proudly posing with what looked like uncooked burger patties, one already topped with cheese. A true culinary masterpiece — if the goal was food poisoning.

Conservative commentator Greg Price piled on by sharing Spanberger’s photo alongside grill shots of Schumer, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, and former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, writing, “I hope Democrat politicians never stop doing photo ops behind a grill.” Honestly, at this point, it’s the most consistent thing they do.
Despite wearing a black apron reading “Beef, it’s what’s for dinner,” Spanberger’s post was flooded with comments questioning what the strange substance on the grill actually was.
“Ma’am, what is that?” asked independent journalist Breanna Morello.
The satire account Three Year Letterman joked, “How many neighborhood cats are missing,” and added, “arrest her.” Researcher Parker Thayer of the Capital Research Center wrote, “Did you cut your meat with a weed wacker?”

Heritage Foundation fellow Heritage Foundation researcher Jason Bedrick declared, “What you did to that meat violates the Geneva Convention.” Another conservative commentator, David Freeman, simply replied, “No thanks.” Even beef supplier Merriwether Farms weighed in with, “Virginia is in trouble.”
This isn’t new territory for Democrats. In 2024, Schumer faced similar ridicule after posting a Father’s Day message about grilling hot dogs and hamburgers at his daughter’s new home — a post he eventually deleted after being mercilessly mocked.
From Spanberger’s shredded mystery meat to Schumer’s raw burger saga, Democrat grill photo ops continue to deliver exactly what conservatives expect: confusion, comedy, and absolutely no appetite. And the silver lining? Every one of these disasters reminds Americans that while Democrats struggle with burgers, conservatives still know how to handle the heat — in the kitchen and in leadership.
