Elon Musk set social media ablaze on Wednesday after reposting a resurfaced clip of Rep. Ilhan Omar promising Somali constituents that she would use the U.S. government to protect Somalia’s interests — a statement that left Americans wondering who exactly she works for. Musk didn’t mince words, writing simply: “This sounds like treason.” And honestly, many Americans watching the video had the same question… but maybe were too polite to say it out loud.
The clip, originally from January 2024, shows Omar reassuring supporters in Minnesota — home to the largest Somali refugee community in the U.S. — that she would work to block Somaliland from allowing Ethiopia to build a naval base. According to the translation, Omar boldly declared, “The U.S. government will do what we ask it to do.”
Quite a statement for someone elected to serve America, though apparently she missed that memo.
She continued, telling the crowd that “while I am in Congress, no one will take Somalia’s sea,” insisting the U.S. government wouldn’t support actions that could harm Somalia. A powerful message — just not exactly the one her actual country might want to hear first.
The resurfaced video picked up steam shortly after President Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania, where he reminded the nation of Omar’s long history of prioritizing her homeland over her adopted country. Trump, in his classic direct style, didn’t sugarcoat his thoughts:
“I love this Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is, with the little turban… She comes in, does nothing but b----… We ought to get her the hell out.”

The crowd responded with the chant that made headlines years ago and clearly still resonates: “Send her back!”
Trump also highlighted something many politicians have tiptoed around for years — the staggering number of Somali immigrants in Minnesota who have been arrested or charged in major fraud schemes. These scandals drained roughly $1 billion from the state, all under the watch of Gov. Tim Walz. But hey, who’s counting? Apparently not the Democrats running Minnesota.
Omar, never one to let Trump have the last word, rushed to X on Tuesday night to fire back:
“Trump’s obsession with me is beyond weird. He needs serious help… He continues to be a national embarrassment.”
But as the video shows, the real embarrassment may be a sitting member of Congress assuring a foreign community that she’ll bend the U.S. government to serve a foreign nation’s interests. And Americans — thanks to Musk’s amplification — are finally seeing it with their own eyes.
At least the conversation is out in the open now, and sunlight, as they say, is the best disinfectant. A good day for transparency… and an even better day for America First.
