Iran is threatening to retaliate against any U.S. or Israeli attacks by striking critical energy infrastructure, according to comments published Friday by the country’s state-affiliated Tasnim News Agency.

A senior Iranian security official told Tasnim that reports in U.S. media about possible American and Israeli strikes on Iranian infrastructure amounted to “a kind of madness.” The official warned that Tehran has prepared “extensive response plans” and asserted that Iran’s armed forces possess both “the capability and the will” to carry them out.

According to the report, those plans include strikes on Israeli critical infrastructure as well as U.S. energy infrastructure across the region.

The threat comes hours after the White House told Fox News Digital that President Donald Trump “is not going to stand by and allow this terrorist behavior to occur.” The White House added that “Iran will continue to pay until they come to the table in, what President Trump deems, a meaningful way.”

The statement was issued in response to reports of a possible expansion of U.S. military operations against Iran amid ongoing regional tensions.

The exchange underscores the sharp escalation between Washington and Tehran following recent U.S. strikes and Iranian actions in the Middle East.
