Iran Weighs Strikes on U.S. Military Targets in Europe if Conflict Escalates

Iranian officials have considered attacking U.S. military targets in Europe should President Donald Trump escalate the war, according to people close to the regime cited in a Financial Times report.

Two regime insiders told the newspaper that Iranian forces have assessed potential strikes on American assets in southeastern European countries, including Bulgaria, which recently approved the use of its Bezmer air base for U.S. refueling aircraft. Cyprus, where a British air base was hit by a drone earlier this year, was also mentioned as a possible target.

One source warned that a major U.S. move, such as strikes on Iranian infrastructure, could expand the conflict beyond the region. “Should the U.S. go too far, Iran will defend itself at any price, go beyond the region and hit Europe too,” the person said. Iranian forces have separately examined attacks on subsea fiber-optic cables in the Strait of Hormuz as another potential retaliatory option.

The threats reflect a defiant posture in Tehran amid ongoing tensions and intermittent fighting. U.S. European Command said it was aware of the reporting and would take appropriate actions.
