Another day, another case involving a foreign national accused of illegally participating in U.S. elections — and another reminder of why many conservatives say the Senate needs to pass the SAVE America Act immediately.
On Tuesday, the Department of Justice announced the arrest of Sunny Manhertz, a 40-year-old resident of Saugus, Massachusetts. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, the noncitizen has been charged with unlawful voting by an alien, along with a charge related to the “procurement, casting, or tabulation of ballots” allegedly known to be false, fictitious, or fraudulent under state law.
Yet somehow, whenever concerns about election security are raised, the media and the Left act like voter fraud is nothing more than a conspiracy theory. Awkward timing for that narrative.
The case is already fueling renewed demands from conservatives for stronger election safeguards, including passage of the SAVE America Act, which supporters argue would help ensure only American citizens are voting in federal elections.
Election integrity has remained one of the top concerns among Republican voters, especially after years of heated national debate over ballot security, voter identification requirements, and noncitizen participation in elections.
Supporters of stricter voter laws argue that protecting the ballot box should not be controversial and that confidence in elections depends on enforcing clear rules and accountability.
As more cases like this continue making headlines, pressure is likely to grow on lawmakers to take stronger action to protect the integrity of America’s elections and restore public trust in the system.
