For weeks, these outlets have breathlessly reported on supposed "miserable conditions" aboard the vessel, deployed for over 260 days in volatile Middle Eastern waters—a critical front in the ongoing U.S.-Iran confrontation. The narrative pushed tales of sailors abandoning ship, severe food shortages, and even violent confrontations on deck, creating a picture of utter despair.
But while the Pentagon acknowledged the deployment’s inherent challenges, they delivered a forceful, America First rebuttal, directly confronting the media's manufactured crisis. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell did not mince words, labeling the coverage "shameful."
Parnell powerfully articulated the harsh realities of military service, contrasting it sharply with the media's theatrical alarmism:
I deployed for 485 days in Afghanistan with an 80 percent-plus casualty rate. We came under fire nearly every day. Combat deployments bring real hardship. That is simply the truth.
We endured it. We held together. We finished the mission.
The media treatment of the USS Abraham Lincoln is something different. Legitimate challenges of a long combat deployment are being twisted into a false narrative, while the genuine difficulties faced by military families are being used for headlines.
That is shameful.

Enter Washington Post reporter Dan Lamothe, apparently chafed by the Pentagon's direct criticism of his journalistic colleagues. He took to social media, attempting a smug "gotcha" moment by challenging Parnell for "behind-the-scenes video" of the USS Lincoln.
A classic, predictable play from the establishment media playbook: demand proof while conveniently ignoring what's already in plain sight.
Except Lamothe’s challenge didn’t land. It imploded spectacularly. Apparently, the WaPo reporter had either forgotten or conveniently "memory-holed" the fact that an in-depth, behind-the-scenes video of the USS Lincoln—exactly what he was demanding—had already aired back in July. And the kicker? It wasn't some conservative news outlet providing the access; it was none other than CNN.
No panicked sailors jumping overboard, no mass food riots, just American servicemen and women doing their duty. Funny how that vital detail eluded the Washington Post.
Faced with undeniable evidence of his own journalistic oversight, Lamothe offered a rather pathetic attempt at a recovery.
It's appreciated. It's also more rare than it used to be.
One example: I was at the border early in this administration. Story seemed appreciated and got no pushback.
Sought to go back again this spring for a follow-on story. Efforts were worked ... and then denied at the Pentagon.
A simple "My apologies, I missed that" would have shown more integrity than this weak deflection.
This episode serves as yet another stark reminder of the mainstream media's relentless drive to undermine our military and manufacture crises where none exist, all while failing to do their basic homework. The Pentagon, under an administration committed to peace through strength, rightly defended our courageous service members. Our American heroes on the USS Lincoln deserve our unwavering respect and support, not the sensationalized smears of a biased press corps.
