President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino celebrated the resounding success of the 2026 World Cup at a reception held at Trump Tower in New York on Friday, declaring the tournament a massive victory for the United States and the sport.

With the final set for Sunday between Argentina and Spain, both leaders praised the event for exceeding all expectations. Infantino called it “the greatest World Cup of all time,” highlighting packed stadiums, millions of fans in attendance, and billions watching worldwide.

“This World Cup has exceeded all expectations. Full stadiums, 7 million people in the stadiums, tens of millions in the cities in America, in Canada, in Mexico, billions in front of their TV, everyone enjoying the game with happiness, with joy, with peace! The American dream, Mr. President, came to reality. We united the world,” Infantino said.

Trump emphasized how the tournament showcased America’s greatness to visitors who arrived with preconceived notions — largely shaped by liberal media — but left falling in love with the country.

“A lot of countries came here not knowing what to think and they loved the United States. In fact, the people that came — they’re going to be coming back,” Trump said.

The President described the event as “far beyond a sporting event,” calling it something very special for the nation, especially coinciding with America’s 250th anniversary. He also injected his signature humor, joking that the U.S. should host the World Cup again — this time without Mexico and Canada — and playfully commenting on a potential future tournament involving China.

Trump is scheduled to attend the final on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, where he will help present the trophy alongside Infantino.
