Pritzker Hands Republicans a Gift With His Pathetic Excuses on Chicago Crime

When it comes to crime, Democrat “leaders” in Illinois have mastered the art of denial. Ask them about Chicago’s bloody weekends and you’ll get the same tired lines: “We got this,” “Chicago is safe, see? I’m walking around just fine,” or the classic, “Crime is way down.” Tell that to the families planning funerals after Labor Day weekend.

Take JB Pritzker, Illinois’ governor and rumored 2028 presidential hopeful. After President Trump called him out over the chaos in Chicago, citing six killed and 24 shot the prior weekend, Pritzker ignored the facts and instead stooped to cheap shots. He mocked Trump with a “proof of life” tweet, parroting nonsense from the Lincoln Project. Yes, while his city bleeds, Pritzker’s big comeback is playground-level rumor mongering. Truly inspiring leadership.

But the real gift to Republicans came Monday when NBC 5’s Mary Ann Ahern asked a simple question: is Chicago safe? After 58 people were shot and eight killed in just three days, would he ask his friends to ride the L late at night? Pritzker’s answer? Shrug it off. “Big cities have crime. There’s no doubt about it. But let’s just pay attention to what President Trump is doing.” Translation: ignore the gunfire, folks, Orange Man Bad is the real problem.

This tone-deaf response shows exactly why voters are fed up. Pritzker isn’t concerned with crime victims; he’s concerned with protecting his political ambitions. And let’s be honest—he and his Democrat buddies love pointing fingers at red states. What they conveniently ignore is that when red states struggle with crime, it’s usually because their own Democrat-run cities are the ones driving the numbers. Nice try, Governor.

As Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson rightly noted, this is all part of a dishonest pattern. Pritzker and his fellow Democrats downplay crime, deflect blame, and hope voters are too distracted to notice. But Americans are noticing. And if Pritzker thinks this kind of weak deflection will play well in 2026 or 2028, he’s in for a rude awakening.

The truth is simple: Democrats created this crisis, and Republicans—led by President Trump—are the ones ready to fix it. Chicago deserves better, Illinois deserves better, and America deserves better. And with strong leadership, that “better” is on the horizon.
