New York Attorney General Letitia James, fresh off seeing her federal mortgage-fraud charges dismissed by a Clinton-appointed judge, is now facing a formal bar complaint accusing her of “illegal and dishonest conduct.”
According to the New York Post, the Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) submitted a complaint on Friday urging the state’s Attorney Grievance Committee to launch an immediate investigation.
Curtis Schube, CASA’s director of research and policy, wrote in the four-page filing:
“Fraud, misrepresentation, honesty and trustworthiness are all factors that the Rules of Professional Conduct expressly factor when weighing whether to discipline an attorney.”
The group argues that if a “preponderance of the evidence” supports the allegations tied to James’s mortgage dealings, she should face disciplinary action—including potential disbarment.
Background on the Mortgage Allegations
As Breitbart News previously reported, federal prosecutors claimed James misled a bank to secure better loan terms on a 2020 home purchase in Norfolk, Virginia. The indictment alleged she described the property as a secondary residence but then rented it to family instead.
But on November 24, U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie—appointed by President Bill Clinton—threw out the two-count indictment, which included alleged bank fraud involving a $109,000 mortgage and making false statements to a financial institution.
Currie ruled that Lindsey Halligan, who had brought the charges as a “special attorney” for the Eastern District of Virginia, lacked the legal authority to do so because she was never properly confirmed by Congress or an authorized judicial panel.
The same judge also dismissed a separate case Halligan filed against former FBI Director James Comey involving alleged false statements to Congress.
CASA Has Also Targeted Comey
In late October, CASA filed similar bar complaints in both New York and Virginia against Comey, who is licensed in both states. Those committees also have the authority to revoke an attorney’s ability to practice.
CASA, sometimes labeled “conservative” or “right-leaning” by the media, describes itself as a non-partisan organization dedicated to advancing “safety and security” for Americans.
