Massively influential podcaster Joe Rogan has delivered a blistering challenge to Democrats, demanding they offer specific, honest admissions of fault regarding their past embrace of radical "Woke 1.0" policies. Rogan warned that without such transparency, the party's attempts to pivot away from disastrous ideologies like "Defund the Police" will be seen as nothing more than a cynical ploy.
The call for accountability comes as some Democrats, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have attempted to laugh off previous far-left stances as a mere "crazy" phase. But Rogan isn't buying it, insisting that voters deserve more than a vague dismissal.
"If you really thought "Defund the Police" and then you just ascribed it to "Woke One was crazy," well, how did it get you? Because it didn't get me. How did it get you? How did "Defund the Police" get you?" Rogan pressed, highlighting the glaring inconsistency in claiming to move on without explaining the initial embrace of such harmful ideas.
"There's a way out of it for them, but they have to be honest," Rogan continued. "If you want us to take you seriously, you have to say how you f---ed up... You have to be honest, and you have to be authentic. We have to know that you are embarrassed by your choices and that you kind of went with the hive." He bluntly concluded, "If you don't say that, then you're full of sh--."
Skepticism about the Democratic Party's supposed shift is widespread. Rogan's guest, YouTuber Chris Williamson, questioned whether such a distancing from "Woke 1.0" would have even occurred if former Vice President Kamala Harris had won the election. "Would AOC have been talking about Woke 1.0 was crazy or would that have been a continuation of, "Well, look, we put the policies out, people like the policies." How much of this is a reversal of the position because it wasn't effective?" Williamson asked, pointing to a calculation based on political efficacy rather than genuine principle.
Conservative commentators echo Rogan's doubts, viewing the talk of a "post-woke" shift as a shallow strategic maneuver rather than a true ideological recalibration. "There is not much difference between Woke 1 and Woke 2, they both involve the commodification of grievance and rage, and then the packaging of lunatic ideas that do little to help voters and seek to make them permanent wards of the state," he stated, drawing a stark contrast with the opportunity-focused Democrats of the 90s.
Republican consultant Mary Marslender described the vague talk of ditching "Woke 1.0" as a "temporary political strategy," not a "genuine course correction." She highlighted the glaring lack of concrete policy reversals: "Democrats refuse to specifically call out the craziness; they have yet to stand up for women by preventing biological males in women’s sports, stop the DEI agenda in our schools and institutions, or advocate for safe communities by stopping their support of soft-on-crime progressive prosecutors." Marslender also slammed their "hollow" rhetoric on immigration, given their opposition to interior enforcement and support for sanctuary cities. "It’s power, not principle, that drives the Democrat Party," she asserted, concluding that voters are right to be skeptical.
Echoing this sentiment, former Republican National Committee spokesperson Elizabeth Pipko observed that Democrats "tend to turn with the wind," adapting their stances based on what is popular with their base during primaries, only to backtrack during general elections. "Watching Democrats in 2026 pretending they never called for defunding the police has been incredibly entertaining considering almost all of them still have old posts up clearly advocating for that very policy," Pipko remarked. She added that dismissing such damaging views as mere "Woke 1" demonstrates how little Democrats truly believe in what they say.
Former White House deputy assistant for domestic policy under Trump, Theo Wold, warned against underestimating the progressive agenda. "AOC’s sarcastic dismissal of Woke 1.0 isn’t a sign that Democrats are abandoning a leftist agenda — it’s a sign that they’re moving on to phase 2 of their project," Wold stated, urging more skepticism. "This is who Democrats are. They won’t abandon these ideas or apologize for them because they believe them, and when in power, they will ruthlessly advance them."
