Sanders Admits The Obvious: “System Is Broken”—While Stewart Says Trump Is The “Most Socialist President” Of His Lifetime

File this under “things you don’t hear every day.” Sen. Bernie Sanders went on “The Daily Show” and—between the standard broadsides—conceded something Democrats rarely say out loud: the system is broken. His words, not ours. He even admitted President Trump isn’t “stupid,” noting Trump recognized the reality long before Democrats were willing to whisper it. Passive-aggressive honesty from Bernie? Mark your calendar.

Sanders told Jon Stewart that Trump “may be crazy” and “a pathological liar”—the usual theater—but acknowledged Trump correctly highlighted the country’s broken system. Sanders’ kicker? Democrats need to admit it, too. Imagine that: recognizing the problem instead of writing another think piece about how everything’s fine if you just squint harder.

Then came the twist. Stewart called Trump the “most socialist president” of his lifetime and said the “true inheritor of the Sanders revolution is Trump.” Why? Because Trump actually used government leverage to deliver results Democrats only workshop at retreats. Stewart pointed to moves like taking a percentage of companies to do business and the Trump Rx idea of government involvement in selling pharmaceuticals. And remember that “historic agreement” with Intel: the U.S. puts $8.9 billion on the table to expand domestic semiconductors—and secures an equity stake. Results, not white papers.

Sanders, asked if it’s frustrating to see Democrats run from ideas he pushed while Trump embraces parts of them, basically said, “Yeah.” He also called on Democrats to face “bloody reality” about a broken health care system, and to fix the campaign finance mess—end Citizens United, move to public funding, and let people participate. Bold talk; we’ll see if anyone in his party actually picks up the phone.

Bottom line: Even Bernie is saying out loud what Trump recognized from day one—the system is broken. The difference? Trump acts. And when America acts, factories get built, jobs return, and the country wins. That’s the kind of reality everyone can get behind.
