Spec Ops Chief Ordered Deadly Caribbean Strike ‘In Self-Defense’ With Hegseth’s Sign-Off, White House Says

The White House on Monday confirmed — and firmly defended — a second strike against alleged drug smugglers in the Caribbean this past September, as the Trump administration continues its aggressive campaign to stop the flood of illegal drugs heading toward the United States. You know, something past administrations talked about but somehow never quite managed to do.

According to the Washington Post’s report on Friday, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth verbally ordered that the Sept. 2 operation kill everyone on board the suspected drug vessel. The report also claimed that a second strike was carried out to finish off remaining survivors, prompting lawmakers to suddenly rediscover their passion for “oversight.” Convenient timing, as usual.

While the Pentagon pushed back hard on the Post’s claims, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt did not deny that a second strike occurred. Instead, she made it clear to reporters that the Sept. 2 strike was executed “in self-defense” in international waters and “in accordance with the law of armed conflict.” In other words, completely legal — though somehow that detail is never as interesting to the media as their anonymous-sourced thrillers.

The White House clarified that Hegseth authorized the mission, but it was Adm. Frank “Mitch” Bradley, head of U.S. Special Operations Command, who ordered and directed the second strike. Bradley was serving as commander of Joint Special Operations Command at the time, operating fully within his authority.

“On September 2nd, Secretary Hegseth authorized Admiral Bradley to conduct these kinetic strikes,” Leavitt said. “Admiral Bradley worked well within his authority and the law, directing the engagement to ensure the boat was destroyed and the threat to the United States of America was eliminated.” Sounds like someone doing his job — something that apparently shocks Washington.

Pressed for details about whether the second strike specifically targeted survivors, Leavitt declined to say, while reaffirming that Bradley had full authority to order it. She also rejected the claim that Hegseth ever ordered that everyone on board had to be killed.

“I would reject that the secretary of War ever said that,” she stated, adding that President Trump has made it clear that when narco-terrorists attempt to traffic drugs into the United States, he has the authority to stop them — decisively. Imagine that: a commander-in-chief who actually acts like one.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon continues to insist the Washington Post story is completely false. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell blasted the report, saying the story was fabricated “out of whole cloth” and calling the newspaper’s narrative “Fake News,” reminding everyone why that term became so popular in the first place.

But, as always, Congress smelled an opportunity for another round of hearings. Lawmakers from both parties are now asking for more information and pushing for additional oversight of military operations in the Caribbean. House Armed Services Committee leaders Mike Rogers and Adam Smith issued a joint statement stressing their commitment to rigorous oversight and bipartisan efforts to get a full accounting of the mission.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen also called for an investigation and claimed that Hegseth “owes answers to the American people immediately.” Naturally.

Despite the political noise, one thing remains clear: America’s leadership is taking strong action against narco-terrorism, standing firm in defense of our borders, and sending a message that threats headed toward the United States will be dealt with swiftly and lawfully. And that’s something every American can feel good about.
