Rep. Luna, herself a proud Mexican American and the first ever elected to Congress from Florida, didn't mince words. She highlighted the stark double standard of a candidate claiming to "fight for Mexico" while seemingly ignoring the very real and violent corruption plaguing that nation.
"I think that that's embarrassing," Luna stated bluntly. "And I say that as someone that, again, is the first Mexican American elected to Congress from the state of Florida. I saw her posting, and she's calling out corporations, but she can't call out the corrupt government of Mexico that's responsible to one of the bloodiest election cycles in the last decade with people actually running for office?"
Luna went further, suggesting a disturbing connection to cartel influence. "I would not be surprised that if people in that very photo are actually on the cut from cartel, because, frankly, the cartel was murdering people that were speaking out about corruption within the government of Mexico," she remarked, pointing to the brutal realities on the ground that Valdez appears to overlook.
The Florida Congresswoman’s criticism cuts to the core of what it means to serve in the United States Congress. "So, you’re running for U.S. Congress, not Mexican Congress," Luna emphasized. "Maybe understand the two."
