Camron Harris of Henrico, Virginia, identified as the alleged perpetrator, was not a student at the institution. The violent Saturday morning attack left five individuals wounded, with one person reportedly in critical condition.

While authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, it has been confirmed that only one of the five wounded individuals is a Virginia State University student, raising questions about the perpetrator's motives and targets.

The dramatic pursuit culminated hours later when police located Harris attempting to evade justice by hiding in a closet within one of the campus dormitories – a stark image of a desperate attempt to escape accountability.

Prosecutors moved quickly, securing felony warrants against Harris for four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. These are serious charges reflecting the gravity of the violence and the commitment to uphold law and order.

Harris is currently held without bail at Chesterfield County Jail, a necessary measure to ensure public safety. Authorities indicate that additional charges could be forthcoming, underscoring the ongoing nature of this critical investigation.

The initial incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday. Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the 3300 block of Boisseau Street around 1:28 a.m., discovering five individuals with gunshot wounds just outside the university's residence halls.

In the wake of the incident, the university acknowledged the profound concern it has caused among its students, parents, and the wider VSU community. Virginia State University police have commendably committed to maintaining an increased presence on campus, a vital step to reassure students and uphold a sense of security while the investigation progresses.

The campus lockdown, a necessary immediate response to the threat, has since been lifted, allowing a return to a semblance of normalcy while vigilance remains high.
