After a week in which Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) completely embarrassed himself by having a meeting with an illegal alien alleged MS-13 gang member who has also been accused of beating his wife, you might think he would go to ground and hide away in shame. But that would mean he had shame.
He apparently doesn’t, since instead, he was hitting all the Sunday shows on Easter trying to attack the Trump team and push the twisted narrative of his visit. But even going on friendly stations didn’t go well for him.
On “Meet the Press,” he didn’t seem to understand why the murder of Rachel Morin, a resident of Maryland, the state he’s supposed to represent, was relevant.
“I’m not sure why Abrego Garcia’s rights should be denied based on an awful murder that he had absolutely nothing to do with,” he said, dismissing that fact and people calling him out for not advocating or caring about Morin.
Then there was CNN and Dana Bash. Bash brought up the question of Abrego Garcia’s alleged MS-13 tattoos, which President Donald Trump pointed out. She doesn’t note the court findings that Abrego Garcia was a member. But she asked Van Hollen if he could say that Abrego Garcia was not a member: “Did you ask him point blank?”
Van Hollen’s answer showed the exact problem Democrats have with this case.
Van Hollen: Accuses Trump of trying to “change the subjectā ā as he then changes the subject: āSo Iām not going to get into the details⦔
Bash: Did you ask him?
Van Hollen: No.
Van Hollen accused Trump of trying to change the subject — even as he was changing the subject to try to avoid Bash’s question. That set Bash blinking furiously, but she did press him. Van Hollen babbled, but the answer was no, he didn’t. Just incredible. But that’s the Democrats — don’t press on anything that might hurt their narrative which is always “Attack Trump” even if it means defending someone like Abrego Garcia.
Van Hollen is so twisted in how he’s looking at this matter; on ABC, he even started to call Abrego Garcia an “American.”
He then had to quickly change it to, Abrego Garcia was “absconded from America” — which is still ridiculous, because he wasn’t “absconded.” Plus Abrego Garcia is a citizen of El Salvador. It’s Van Hollen who wants to tell the president of El Salvador what to do with his own citizen.
But hey, Van Hollen did finally reveal who is paying for his trip to El Salvador. Guess who? He was asked by Fox.
He couldn’t even initially give a completely straight answer.
“It was an officially cleared Congressional trip,” Van Hollen claimed.
He was pressed again by Shannon Bream, “So taxpayer dollars?”
“Yes, like every other trip,” he finally replied.
Seriously? Who authorized this? Because Van Hollen — and not the American people — should be paying for his own performance theater.
