World leaders and organizations are learning quickly in the second Trump administration that things aren’t business as usual when it comes to how they treat the U.S. and its allies.
Sure, when President Joe Biden was behind the Resolute Desk, they could say and do what they wanted willy-nilly. One of those orgs. that got the wrong message is the International Criminal Court (ICC).
RedState previously reported extensively on the ICC’s malfeasance:
The ICC has already suffered some fallout for its prosecutors from the U.S., including for the Hague-based international justice body’s lead lawyer: (emphasis added)
The US has already sanctioned the ICC’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, because of his role in pursuing the arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant. Those sanctions have led Khan to lose access to his email and his bank accounts have been frozen, the Associated Press reported earlier this month.
That’s a shame, isn’t it?
We were just getting warmed up, though. On Thursday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio didn’t mince words in his announcement of U.S. sanctions being imposed against four additional judges on the ICC who savaged both our nation’s troops on the battlefield and leaders of our ally, Israel:
The post continued, with the secretary writing that the second “attack” requiring correction was by “two [judges] who authorized the ICC’s illegitimate arrest warrants targeting @IsraeliPM Netanyahu and former Defense Minister @YoavGallant. We call on our allies to stand with us against this disgraceful attack.”
The last sentence is worth repeating, for the bureaucrats in the back who felt it was fine during the previous Democrat administrations of Barack Obama and Biden to go on extended world apology tours:
We call on our allies to stand with us against this disgraceful attack.
The judges are “Solomy Balungi Bossa of Uganda, Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza of Peru, Reine Adelaide Sophie Alapini-Gansou of Benin and Beti Hohler of Slovenia.” I’ll get back to them in a minute.
In remarks on the move, Rubio stated that the four ICC officials “have actively engaged in the ICC’s illegitimate and baseless actions targeting America or our close ally, Israel.”
He continued, “The ICC is politicized and falsely claims unfettered discretion to investigate, charge, and prosecute nationals of the United States and our allies. This dangerous assertion and abuse of power infringes upon the sovereignty and national security of the United States and our allies, including Israel.”
ICC’s reaction in the Guardian piece linked above shows this is exactly what we needed to do.
“These measures are a clear attempt to undermine the independence of an international judicial institution which operates under the mandate from 125 states parties from all corners of the globe,” the ICC said.
The statement droned on, doubling down on the judges’ disgusting claims of “the gravest crimes”- that is, alleged genocide -against Israel in the wake of the Oct. 7 attack by terror group Hamas and bombings from Iran’s other stooges, Hezbollah:
“Targeting those working for accountability does nothing to help civilians trapped in conflict. It only emboldens those who believe they can act with impunity. These sanctions are not only directed at designated individuals, they also target all those who support the court, including nationals and corporate entities of states arties. They are aimed against innocent victims in all situations before the court, as well as the rule of law, peace, security and the prevention of the gravest crimes that shock the conscience of humanity.”
As I recently wrote, SecState Rubio wasn’t kidding about America’s role changing gradually in the foreign affairs realm. Here’s just one more sign, possibly, that it’s continuing apace.
This is awesome stuff from Team Trump, readers, especially when the world seems to have forgotten reality over the past four years, while Biden let the world’s worst actors walk all over us and Israel. We are sovereign nations, and not at the beck and call of these people who are probably good pals of America-hating, CNN diva Christiane Amanpour from — take a gander at that list of judges again — Uganda, Peru, Benin, and Slovenia. Actions really do beget consequences. The world is finding out this isn’t their kindly grandfather Joe’s U.S., so to speak, under Pres. Trump’s leadership. Good to see it.
