When Abigail Spanberger campaigned for governor of Virginia in 2025, she meticulously cultivated an image of a moderate Democrat, promising to govern the commonwealth with an even hand and common sense. However, once in office earlier this year, that carefully constructed facade quickly crumbled, revealing her true radical roots.
Spanberger wasted no time aligning herself with the far-left agenda. She quickly severed ties with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), pushed for a blatant gerrymandered congressional map designed to entrench Democrat power, and aggressively pursued a ban on the sale of "automatic firearms."
One of her most telling moves was the wholesale replacement of the entire state parole board—the critical government body responsible for determining which criminals are released back into society. While technically within her rights as governor, this action raised immediate red flags, particularly given her simultaneous push to restore voting rights to convicted felons across the state.
Spanberger's hand-picked parole board has since proven to be shockingly pro-criminal and anti-victim. In just the past seven months, they have granted parole to a staggering 10 percent of inmates who have come before them. This figure stands in stark contrast to the mere 0.7 percent released by former Governor Youngkin's board two years prior. The pattern is undeniable: for today's Democrats, more freed criminals translate directly into more Democrat voters.
This dangerous agenda was laid bare on Thursday, when the parole board, as reported by WJLA's Nick Minock, released seven out of eight felons in a single day. These were not minor offenders; the list included individuals convicted of murder, rape, child abuse, and bank robbery.
?New: Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s parole board has released 7/8 felons who have had parole hearings so far today. We’re talking about people who were convicted of murder, rape, child abuse, and bank robbery. Several had decades left on their sentences. Several victims have pleaded with the board not to release.
Today, one inmate told the Virginia Parole Board he and his fellow inmates are thankful the board is letting them out and then told the board to have a “safe day.”
And there it is. Once these convicted felons are back on the streets, many can expect another "gift" from Governor Spanberger: the restoration of their voting rights, which they forfeited by committing serious crimes against society.
As previously reported, the governor has been quietly restoring the votes of tens of thousands of criminals, grandstanding that she was reversing "disenfranchisement" that was “a shameful relic of our Jim Crow past.” Conveniently, the blame for this supposed injustice was, of course, laid at the feet of Republicans who came before her.
It’s important to understand that Virginia Democrats actively paved the way for this surge in releases. Earlier this year, they passed legislation expanding parole eligibility to certain inmates whose original juries were never informed that Virginia had previously abolished parole. This politically motivated rule change forced new parole interviews for thousands of prisoners, opening the floodgates.
But the absurdity doesn't stop there. What about those restored voting rights? Spanberger's administration recently managed to restore the voting rights of a felon who died a decade ago.
Mr. Breton passed away in January of 2016, yet his voting rights were ceremoniously restored by the Spanberger administration in August of 2026. There is no way of knowing how many deceased felons will mysteriously cast ballots in the midterm elections this year, but it is abundantly clear that Spanberger and her Democrat allies are doing everything in their power to "lock up" the bad guy vote.
This reckless disregard for public safety and election integrity is a hallmark of the radical left's agenda. The release of dangerous felons, coupled with the cynical manipulation of voting rolls to include criminals—even deceased ones—is a direct attack on law and order, American values, and the public trust. Virginians deserve leaders who prioritize the safety of their communities and the sanctity of their elections, not those who put political gain above all else.
