A California man is facing serious federal charges after authorities say he attempted to pass through security at Sacramento International Airport with an explosive device in his carry-on luggage while preparing to board a flight bound for North Carolina.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California, 49-year-old Kimani Osayande Jones, also known as Kimani Osayande Jackson, has been charged by criminal complaint with unlawfully possessing explosive material in an airport.

Court documents state that Jones arrived at a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint at Sacramento International Airport at approximately 9 p.m. on May 30. Authorities say he was attempting to board American Airlines Flight 2464, which was scheduled to travel from Sacramento to Charlotte, North Carolina.
