Carville Slams Ilhan Omar for Attacking White Men, Says Democrats Can’t Win Without Them

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville doubled down on his criticism of Rep. Ilhan Omar, arguing that her attacks on White males are politically self-destructive for the Democratic Party.

Speaking on SiriusXM’s Straight Shooter with Stephen A., Carville said Omar’s rhetoric risks alienating a massive share of the electorate.

“It’s stupid to attack 33% of the voters,” Carville said.

Carville’s Electoral Math

During the interview with sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, Carville pointed to voting demographics from the 2024 election to make his case.

According to Carville, roughly 72% of voters were White, and about half of that group were men.

“That means about 33% of the people that are going to vote are going to be White males,” he said. “Well, it’s stupid to attack 33% of the voters.”

Carville argued that no political party hoping to win national elections can afford to antagonize such a large segment of the electorate.

Suggestion: Omar Should Form Her Own Political Bloc

Carville even suggested Omar might be better off operating outside the Democratic Party’s electoral coalition.

He said she could align more closely with groups like the Democratic Socialists of America, similar to how Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez identifies politically.

“What I would say to Congresswoman Omar, ‘Why don’t you be a Democratic Socialist of America?’” Carville said.

He added that such factions could still cooperate with Democrats in governing, but should not necessarily shape the party’s national election strategy.

“Mathematical Insanity”

Carville warned that some Democrats appear to believe they can win elections without strong support from White voters—particularly White men.

“That we can somehow or another win an election without White males—it’s just insanity,” he said. “It’s literally mathematical insanity.”

Rejecting Identity-Based Generalizations

During the discussion, Smith asked whether critics might argue that former President Donald Trump has deliberately cultivated support among White men.

Carville rejected the idea that White men—or any demographic group—should be treated as a monolith.

“All White people are not the same. All Black people are not the same. All Hispanic people are not the same,” he said.

Carville also criticized the broader trend of lumping diverse communities into broad categories like “people of color,” arguing that individuals within every demographic group hold a wide range of views and values.

The longtime strategist concluded that political parties must appeal to a broad coalition of voters if they hope to win national elections.
