MADISON, Wis. — The Democratic Party's internal tug-of-war took a dramatic turn in Wisconsin this week, as the establishment wing narrowly managed to fend off a radical socialist challenge in a critical gubernatorial primary. State Representative Francesca Hong, a vocal member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) whose past extreme views have drawn national scrutiny, was defeated by Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, a candidate backed heavily by the party machine.

This tight primary contest, decided by a razor-thin margin, underscores the deep ideological fissures tearing through the modern Democrat party. While a far-left candidate scraped by in Michigan just days prior, Wisconsin’s outcome reveals a nervous establishment desperate to avoid handing a crucial swing state to Republicans on a silver platter.

Hong, a Madison lawmaker, former chef, and single mother, garnered support from nationally recognized progressives like Reps. Ilhan Omar and Ro Khanna. Her platform included radical proposals such as a $20 minimum wage, guaranteed paid leave, and even a one-year moratorium on building AI data centers in the state – policies that align with the most extreme fringes of the modern left.

However, it was Hong’s past inflammatory statements that truly laid bare the socialist agenda she represents. Voters had not forgotten her calls to “defund and abolish the police,” a dangerous ideology she has since attempted to walk back, now claiming she is “serious about public safety.” And in a stunning display of political opportunism, the same individual who once demanded Americans “cancel Thanksgiving” to “stop celebrating colonialism” now remarkably claims it’s her “favorite holiday.” Such cynical reversals, made purely for electoral convenience, speak volumes about the sincerity of the hard left's purported principles.

The Democrat establishment, led by outgoing Governor Tony Evers, actively intervened, warning that a Hong nomination could be an electoral catastrophe, jeopardizing their hold on the governor's office. Evers hailed Crowley as “the future of our Party,” a statement that inadvertently highlighted their fear of Hong’s unpopular agenda. The stakes were so high that even pro-GOP super PACs reportedly spent millions to boost Hong, correctly identifying her as the weakest possible Democratic candidate in the general election.

Now, Crowley will face a formidable opponent in the general election: Republican Representative Tom Tiffany. Tiffany, a staunch member of the House Freedom Caucus and backed by President Donald Trump, offers a stark contrast to the left-wing proposals of the Democrats. This race is widely considered a prime opportunity for the GOP to flip the governor’s mansion, bringing common-sense, America First leadership to Wisconsin.
