A 30-year-old driver slammed his SUV into a crowd of Filipino festivalgoers in Vancouver, Canada, Saturday night, killing at least nine people and leaving many more injured, according to authorities.
The black vehicle caused a trail of carnage at a Lapu Lapu Day festival block party that left bloodied and injured victims strewn across the road along with broken debris.
Horrified witnesses could be heard screaming “Oh my God!” in videos of the aftermath — as the suspect’s crushed vehicle could be seen stopped in the street with its airbags out.
“There’s a baby over there! There’s a baby under the truck,” a person who took a video of the scene could be heard saying.

The driver of the car — identified as a Vancouver man — is in custody, VPD stated. Authorities have not provided information on the number of victims.
Vancouver police said it was “confident” that the incident was not an act of terrorism.
Interim police Chief Steve Rai said the suspect was known to police in “certain circumstances” and that “everything is on the table” regarding the driver’s motive.
Troubling video of the aftermath showed a path of destruction littered with bodies and metal — with seemingly dozens of injured people being tended to by both first responders and civilians on an idyllic street lined with food trucks and littered with broken car parts.
One EMS unit is seen desperately providing CPR to a victim while dozens of other first responders make mad dashes to aid the many wounded, that video showed.
Some victims appear to be grievously wounded as they lay unaided, motionless, and bloody on the street.

Festival goers were celebrating Lapu Lapu Day, a public holiday honoring Filipino heritage, according to local City News.
“A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival at E. 41st Avenue and Fraser shortly after 8 p.m. tonight,” the Vancouver Police Department wrote on X.
Canadian politicians have begun to comment on the tragedy.
“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event. We will work to provide more information as soon as we can,” Ken Sim, mayor of Vancouver, wrote on X.
“Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time,” the mayor added.
Conservative candidate for Prime Minister Pierre Poilievre also offered his condolences.
“I am shocked by the horrific news emerging from Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Day Festival tonight. My thoughts are with the Filipino community and all the victims targeted by this senseless attack. Thank you to the first responders who are at the scene as we wait to hear more,” Poilievre wrote on X.
