Instead, it's two Republican senators, John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina, both members of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee, who are inexplicably dragging their feet.
Reports have emerged detailing the duo's hesitation to advance Blanche's nomination to the Senate floor. The committee, initially slated to vote on his bid, postponed the decision by a week, a move described by a representative for Chairman Chuck Grassley as "per standard committee practice." Yet, the underlying reasons for Cornyn and Tillis's indecision cut much deeper, revealing a profound and perplexing hypocrisy.
Their alleged concerns? The vague specter of government "weaponization." Curiously, this newfound worry isn't directed at the very real, ongoing weaponization perpetrated by the Democrat-led government, but rather at the potential for "unfavorable actions" from a Blanche-led Justice Department. This selective apprehension is particularly galling given their staunch opposition to the administration's proposed $1.776 billion "anti-weaponization" fund, designed to aid victims of Democrat lawfare. Senator Tillis, in a bewildering comparison, reportedly even equated the Biden administration's blatant weaponization of the DOJ with the Trump team's pursuit of accountability for such abuses. And somehow, they still expect Americans not to notice.
The sheer audacity of Cornyn and Tillis's current obstruction is laid bare when examining their voting records. For all their present hesitancy regarding Blanche, these same senators had no qualms about endorsing numerous highly partisan nominees put forward by Democrat presidents – many of whom went on to actively weaponize their positions against political opposition and conservative Americans.
A look back at the Biden administration alone reveals a litany of controversial figures who received the enthusiastic backing of both GOP senators. They voted to confirm Merrick Garland as Attorney General, Antony Blinken as Secretary of State, Pete Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary, Janet Yellen as Treasury Secretary, and Miguel Cardona as Education Secretary.
The consequences of these votes have been devastatingly clear. Under Merrick Garland's watch, the Department of Justice became a political cudgel, brazenly attempting to imprison President Donald Trump before the 2024 election, targeting 2020 election protestors, persecuting pro-lifers and other faithful Christians, spying on Republican members of Congress, and even investigating parents who dared to protest unscientific COVID policies and radical racial indoctrination at school board meetings. This is weaponization in plain sight, yet it earned Cornyn and Tillis's stamp of approval.
At the State Department, Antony Blinken spearheaded a series of foreign policy failures. More damningly, it was later revealed that Blinken, then a Biden campaign official, contacted intelligence officials before the 2020 election in a thinly veiled attempt to bury the explosive Hunter Biden laptop story. This wasn't just a political misstep; it was an active interference in the democratic process.
Meanwhile, Pete Buttigieg famously abandoned the devastated residents of East Palestine, Ohio, after a catastrophic train derailment and chemical burn, demonstrating a profound lack of leadership. Janet Yellen ignored critical economic warnings while pushing Democrats' massive, cronyist welfare-state spending. And Miguel Cardona, as Education Secretary, aggressively used his department to promote sexually deviant behavior among children and implement a radical racial indoctrination scheme. These are not minor policy disagreements; these are fundamental attacks on American families and values.
Cornyn's track record extends to Lloyd Austin, Biden's Defense Secretary, who he also supported. Austin notoriously went missing without informing the President, controversially funded travel expenses for military personnel seeking abortions, presided over a crippling military recruiting crisis, and oversaw the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. Such dereliction of duty and anti-American policies somehow failed to trigger Cornyn's "weaponization" alarm.
The pattern of enabling judicial activism is equally alarming. Both Tillis and Cornyn voted for Zahid Quraishi, a Biden appointee who, as a federal district judge in New Jersey, has actively hamstrung the Trump administration's immigration policies. Tillis also supported Michael Farbiarz, another Biden-appointed New Jersey District Judge, who attempted to block efforts to deport a pro-Hamas foreign activist – a decision thankfully vacated by a federal appellate court.
For Cornyn, this pattern of enabling questionable figures dates back to the Obama administration. He supported Hillary Clinton's nomination for Secretary of State, a tenure marred by the Benghazi scandal and her campaign's central role in fabricating the infamous Trump-Russia collusion hoax after her humiliating 2016 defeat.
Another key architect of that insidious hoax, FBI Director James Comey, also received Cornyn's vote for confirmation. Comey was instrumental in crafting a post-2016 Intelligence Community Assessment that parroted unsubstantiated claims of Russian interference to help Trump. This ICA became the cornerstone of the Clinton-manufactured narrative that poisoned American politics for years. Comey's actions represent a textbook case of government weaponization, yet Cornyn saw fit to empower him.
Perhaps most disturbing is Cornyn's support for D.C. District Court Chief Judge James Boasberg. Confirmed by the Senate in 2011, this Obama appointee has consistently acted as a thorn in President Trump's side, issuing overreaching orders against his administration. Even more egregiously, Boasberg played a key role in Special Counsel Jack Smith's politically motivated lawfare against Trump and other Republicans, reportedly signing off on Smith's team seizing the phone records of GOP members of Congress without their knowledge. This is a direct assault on the separation of powers and civil liberties, enabled by a judge Cornyn helped elevate.
Given this extensive record, it is impossible to ignore the undeniable truth: Senators Cornyn and Tillis have, through their votes and inaction, contributed far more to the weaponization of government than any figure like Todd Blanche ever could. By elevating individuals who actively undermined American values, targeted political opponents, and displayed gross incompetence, they empowered a leftist political class that turned the government against its own people and ruined countless lives in the process.
Instead of creating petty, personal roadblocks for nominees like Blanche, who represent a chance for accountability and a return to law and order, these senators should be vigorously supporting him. It is the bare minimum required to begin to right the wrongs they helped enable, and to demonstrate a genuine commitment to the America First principles of justice, accountability, and the restoration of public trust.
