Federal Judge Strikes Down Pritzker's Illegal Alien Handouts, Delivering Major Win for Taxpayers and Rule of Law

While much of the establishment media fixated on the glitz and self-congratulation of Washington's annual correspondents' dinner, a quiet but monumental legal victory for American taxpayers and the rule of law unfolded, sending a clear message to states that prioritize illegal immigrants over their own citizens.

U.S. District Judge Stephen McGlynn, a stalwart Trump appointee in the Southern District of Illinois, delivered a significant blow to Illinois Governor JB Pritzker's progressive agenda on Friday. The judge ruled as "unconstitutional and invalid" key state laws that had shamefully granted in-state tuition, financial aid, and scholarships to individuals illegally present in the United States.

This decisive action by Judge McGlynn, siding squarely with the Justice Department, marks another powerful affirmation of the Trump administration's unwavering commitment to immigration enforcement nationwide. The court granted the federal government's motion for summary judgment, rejecting Illinois' attempt to dismiss the case and uphold its unlawful policies.

Specifically, the RISE Act, which allowed students ineligible for federal aid to tap into state financial assistance, and the Illinois DREAM Act, making illegal aliens eligible for state scholarships, were dismantled. Judge McGlynn concluded that these statutes, along with the in-state tuition policy, could not be interpreted to circumvent federal law and effectively put non-citizens ahead of hardworking American students and families.

The Trump administration justly lauded the ruling. U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft minced no words, stating, "Illinois sought to incentivize illegal immigration on the taxpayer's dime by treating illegal aliens better than U.S. citizens living in other states, in clear violation of federal law. This ruling enforces the statute Congress wrote and stops the State from putting illegal aliens ahead of American citizens."

Republican Representative Mary Miller (IL-15) rightly championed the judge's decision, sharply calling out Governor Pritzker's blatant refusal to prioritize American citizens. "A federal judge just struck down multiple Illinois laws, including those signed by @GovPritzker, that give illegal aliens in-state tuition, financial aid, and scholarships. This is a win for Illinois taxpayers and American students who were shut out while Pritzker prioritized foreigners in our country illegally," she stated, encapsulating the common-sense frustration of many.

While Governor Pritzker's administration has been granted a 14-day window to seek intervention from an appeals court, the ruling permanently prevents Illinois from enforcing these egregious laws. It's a clear signal that the era of state-level policies undermining federal immigration law and burdening taxpayers with benefits for those who broke the law is coming to an end.

This judicial smackdown serves as a stark reminder that the rule of law still matters in America. It's a crucial victory for national sovereignty, fiscal responsibility, and the principle that American citizens, who bear the tax burden and uphold the nation's laws, should always come first. President Trump's legacy of judicial appointments continues to deliver for the American people, one common-sense ruling at a time, pushing back against the radical agenda that seeks to erode our borders and our values.
