"I would never try to elevate… a communist just because [Piker] has followers on some, on Twitch, whatever that is. But overall, if you identify with a communist who praises Mao and Cuba and for these places, that should be foreign to any Democrat. Without a doubt, that's having an impact," Fetterman told Fox News Digital.
Piker, known for openly praising Mao Zedong and defending Cuba’s oppressive communist regime by blaming America for the island’s suffering, has become a significant voice on the progressive left. His backing of socialist candidates like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed underscores the growing sway of these radical elements within the Democratic Party. For a sitting Democrat Senator to call this out so directly is a rare moment of honesty.
Fetterman, speaking after addressing the Israel on Campus Coalition's National Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., described the direction of his party as "troubling." He pointed to recent primaries as a critical test of whether Democrats would continue their alarming embrace of the party’s far-left flank. While some establishment Democrats secured victories, the Michigan Senate primary involving socialist-backed Abdul El-Sayed remained too close to call, revealing the ongoing battle for the party's soul.
The Pennsylvania Senator further emphasized the party's alarming shift on Israel, noting how support for the Jewish state has become a "litmus test" for the radical wing. He blasted California Governor Gavin Newsom for "describing Israel as an apartheid state. He knows better, that that's not true." Fetterman stressed that it should be "pretty obvious" that the party should not "pander to the fringe." "Those are core values… you just can't pander to those kinds of people," he added, a common-sense plea that seems to fall on deaf ears within the party establishment.

Fetterman also highlighted how the term "Zionist" has been weaponized by the left. "The left is using the term of Zionist as like a slur or use Zio or Zio, or describing that as someone that in the negative terms," Fetterman observed. "In other words, being proud, pro-Israel, that's become a slur, and people have to defend that." He staunchly defended the Trump administration’s decisive strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, stating, "I think I was the only Democrat to support the Trump administration to bomb the Iranian nuclear facilities. If you don't want them to acquire a nuclear bomb, it's pretty reasonable to bomb their nuclear facilities, they want to build one." He added, "I've remained the only Democrat to vote against the War Power[s] Act."
