Gas Prices Fall Below $4 Nationally as Oil Prices Drop Following U.S.-Iran Peace Deal

American drivers are seeing some relief at the pump as the national average price for a gallon of gasoline dropped below $4 on Thursday, according to AAA.

The decline marks four straight weeks of falling gas prices. Since reaching a recent high of $4.56 per gallon on May 21, the national average has steadily moved lower, reaching $3.99 on Thursday.

The drop comes as oil prices declined following the peace agreement between the United States and Iran, which contributed to easing pressure in energy markets.

Brent crude, the global benchmark for oil prices, fell to approximately $78.45 per barrel Thursday morning after trading around $112 during the third week of May. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate, the primary U.S. benchmark, declined to about $75.29 per barrel from roughly $108.

Drivers are also seeing lower diesel prices.

One month ago, the national average for diesel stood at $5.63 per gallon. By Thursday, that average had fallen to approximately $5.13.

Fuel costs still vary significantly depending on location. California continues to post the highest average gasoline prices in the country at $5.64 per gallon, while Indiana currently has the lowest statewide average, with gas priced just under $3.40.

For consumers, lower energy prices often reach far beyond the gas station — transportation, shipping, and household costs tend to feel the difference too. Funny how suddenly everyone becomes an oil market analyst the moment gas drops twenty cents.

For now, falling fuel prices offer a welcome sign for Americans hoping to see more breathing room in everyday expenses and a stronger economic outlook moving forward.
