Graham Platner’s Cocaine Comments Resurface, Raising New Questions Ahead of Maine Senate Primary

Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner is facing renewed scrutiny after previously overlooked social media posts resurfaced, revealing blunt admissions about drug use during military leave and a lack of regret over his past actions.

Platner, a combat veteran who served in both the Marine Corps and the Army National Guard, reportedly made the comments in Reddit posts from 2020 under the username “P-Hustle.” In one post, he described “partying it up” while backpacking through Spain during military leave, including the use of drugs. In another post from the same year, he openly acknowledged purchasing cocaine.

“Street value,” Platner wrote in July 2020. “I always wonder what street you're buying your cocaine on, because it's not the street I'm buying my cocaine on.”

The resurfaced comments add yet another controversy to a campaign that has already been dealing with growing criticism and unwanted headlines. At a time when voters are evaluating the character and judgment of candidates seeking higher office, such admissions are likely to draw increased attention from both supporters and critics.

For many Mainers, the issue goes beyond past behavior and centers on accountability. Public officials are expected to demonstrate responsibility and sound decision-making, qualities voters often consider essential for those seeking to represent them in Washington.

As the Senate primary approaches, voters will have the opportunity to decide whether these revelations influence their confidence in Platner’s candidacy. Elections, after all, have a way of turning old social media posts into very current political problems.

With the race entering its final stretch, Maine voters remain in control of the outcome and will ultimately determine who is best suited to represent their state in the United States Senate.
