This initiative, born from conversations with revered Hollywood icon Jon Voight, aims to staunch the economic bleeding in an industry that has seen production and jobs flee America's shores for more incentive-rich countries.
While a formal plan is still in development, the core idea is clear: offer federal tax credits to studios, producers, and directors to bring filmmaking back to the United States. President Trump just met with Hollywood ambassador and movie legend Jon Voight and called Hollywood a complete disaster. Trump said film and TV production has fled to Canada and other countries, leaving California and other blue states bleeding jobs. Voight and others in the industry want federal tax incentives to bring the work home. Trump said the incentives would be paid back many times over in tax revenue and should be bipartisan. “Calling for federal production incentives is exactly what the entertainment industry needs,” their statement said.
This is the same Sean Astin who participated in a Zoom fundraiser for Kamala Harris, helping to rake in millions for her presidential campaign. The same Astin who waxed poetic about the importance of men uniting behind a "qualified" Black woman for president. It's almost too much to believe.
The notion that Donald Trump has transitioned from an "existential threat to democracy" to the potential savior of the entertainment industry is the height of political irony. It appears hell just may have frozen over. This unexpected consensus underscores a crucial truth: when it comes to American jobs and economic prosperity, even the most ideologically entrenched can recognize strong leadership and common-sense solutions, especially when their own livelihoods are on the line.
