The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) accused Hilton Hotels on Monday of refusing to provide lodging to federal officers operating in the Minneapolis area, where agents are currently investigating major fraud allegations tied to federally funded programs.
DHS made the accusation in a post on X, pointedly titled “No Room at the Inn!”, signaling what the department described as deliberate obstruction of federal law enforcement activity.
The revelation comes amid an expanding federal presence in Minnesota. Last week, KATV reported that DHS officers were deployed to Minneapolis to investigate fraud involving organizations receiving federal funds but allegedly failing to deliver the services they claimed to provide.
According to the report, DHS is probing cases involving “federally funded businesses that don’t do what they say they do,” a description that closely mirrors the massive fraud scandals that have plagued Minnesota in recent years.
The timing of Hilton’s alleged refusal raised eyebrows across political circles, especially as Minnesota’s fraud crisis reached a boiling point on Monday. Gov. Tim Walz (D)—former Democratic vice presidential nominee—announced he will not seek re-election, a decision that follows mounting scrutiny over widespread fraud that occurred under his administration’s watch.
Minnesota has already been rocked by the Feeding Our Future scandal, one of the largest pandemic-era fraud schemes in U.S. history, along with additional cases involving housing assistance, Medicaid-funded autism services, and other taxpayer-backed programs. Critics argue state leadership repeatedly ignored warning signs while federal money flowed unchecked.
DHS has not yet indicated whether it will pursue formal action against Hilton Hotels, but the public rebuke signals growing frustration with institutions that appear unwilling to cooperate with federal investigators.
