Another night, another reminder of why enforcing immigration law isn’t optional—it’s essential.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, an illegal Venezuelan migrant was shot in the leg Wednesday evening in Minneapolis after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop and violently ambushing a federal immigration officer with a snow shovel. Yes, a snow shovel—apparently the latest weapon of choice in the “mostly peaceful” playbook.
The incident unfolded around 6:50 p.m. when federal immigration officers attempted to stop the suspect, who was driving at the time. Instead of complying, the migrant tried to flee, crashing into a parked car. When that didn’t work, he ran on foot and allegedly launched a violent assault on the officer, wrestling him to the ground.
Things escalated quickly. As the officer struggled with the suspect, two additional individuals reportedly emerged from a nearby apartment and joined the attack, striking the agent with a snow shovel and a broom handle. While chaos erupted around him, the migrant allegedly broke free and began striking the officer again with the blunt objects. At that point—shockingly—the officer feared for his life.
Faced with a three-on-one ambush, the federal agent fired a single shot, striking the migrant in the leg. The wounded suspect and his accomplices fled into the apartment and barricaded themselves inside, but federal agents eventually gained entry and apprehended all three individuals. The officer and the injured migrant were transported to a hospital, while the two attackers were taken into custody.
DHS later confirmed the original suspect is an illegal immigrant who entered the United States in 2022—another shining success story of lax border enforcement under past policies.

Earlier reports from local outlets indicated gunshots were heard following a car chase through parts of the Twin Cities, with federal agents swarming the area near North Lyndale Avenue and 25th Avenue. At least one ambulance was seen leaving the scene.
As if the attack itself wasn’t enough, angry protesters later flooded the area, hurling fireworks at police officers. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara made it clear the crowd was engaging in unlawful behavior, prompting officers to deploy tear gas to restore order.
Mayor Jacob Frey also condemned the protesters, urging them to stop “taking the bait” and go home, warning against adding chaos on top of chaos. For once, a moment of clarity.
This shooting comes just one week after another violent confrontation in Minneapolis, when Renee Nicole Good was killed after allegedly attempting to weaponize her vehicle against federal agents. The pattern is impossible to ignore.

Despite the danger, federal officers did their jobs, protected themselves, and restored order. That’s what enforcing the law looks like—messy, difficult, and absolutely necessary. With President Trump backing law enforcement and prioritizing public safety, one thing is clear: America is finally standing up for those who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe.
