Joy Behar Taking Break From ‘The View’ to Perform Play in Europe

Fans of ABC’s The View  and sane people are about to get a short break from one of daytime television’s most recognizable liberal voices.

Joy Behar announced Tuesday that she will be stepping away from the show temporarily while traveling to Europe to perform in her stage play, My First Ex-Husband.

The announcement came during The View’s “Behind the Table” podcast, when producer Brian Teta reminded listeners that it would be Behar’s “last podcast for a little bit” because she would not be appearing on the show next week.

Behar then explained the reason behind her absence, revealing plans to split time between Paris and London for performances connected to the production.

“I fly to Paris this week, and then I go take the tunnel to London after a week,” Behar said. “I’ll be in London a second week doing my play, My First Ex-Husband, at the Boulevard Theatre in the West End.”

The play reportedly features Behar alongside actress Jackie Hoffman as two American women, joined by two British actresses in the production.

“We have Jackie Hoffman and I playing the two American women talking, then we have two British actresses,” Behar added. “Doesn’t that sound like fun?”

Well, depending on your feelings about The View, some Americans may view the hiatus itself as the most relaxing part of the announcement.

Teta also revealed several guest hosts who will temporarily fill in during Behar’s absence, including comedian Sheryl Underwood and left-wing podcast host Kara Swisher.

Behar has remained one of the most outspoken progressive voices on daytime television for years, regularly drawing criticism from conservatives over political commentary aimed at President Donald Trump, Republicans, and the broader America First movement. Her remarks on The View frequently spark viral reactions online, especially during heated political debates.

Still, even political critics would likely admit Behar has become one of the defining personalities of modern daytime television, helping keep The View in the headlines through decades of controversy, arguments, and the occasional on-air chaos that somehow passes for normal daytime programming now.

The temporary departure is expected to last only a short time before Behar returns to the panel following her European performances.

Until then, The View will continue moving forward with substitute co-hosts — proving once again that daytime television never truly sleeps, no matter how many dramatic arguments happen before lunchtime.

We wish her all the success in the world, that way she extends her stay overseas and doesn't come back too soon.
