Karoline Leavitt: President Trump Supports the Right to Bear Arms, Not the Right to Impede ICE

On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made it clear that President Donald Trump strongly supports the Second Amendment, but does not support any supposed “right” to interfere with Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations. Yes, you can carry a firearm—but no, you don’t get to block federal law enforcement while doing it.

A reporter asked during the White House briefing, “Does the President believe that Second Amendment rights remain in effect even when protesting?”

Leavitt answered directly: “The President supports the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding American citizens—absolutely. There has been no greater supporter or defender of the right to bear arms than President Donald J. Trump.” Simple, direct, and very hard to twist.

She then added the part that some activists seem to forget: “While Americans have a constitutional right to bear arms, Americans do not have a constitutional right to impede lawful immigration enforcement operations.” Translation: rights do not cancel out the law.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reinforced the same message on Sunday when asked whether people with concealed carry permits should leave their guns in their cars if they attend protests.

“No,” Noem responded. “My message to individuals is don’t go impede law enforcement operations. That’s not legal, you’re breaking the law when you do that.”

Together, the statements draw a clear line: President Trump defends constitutional freedoms while also defending the rule of law. Supporting the Second Amendment does not mean tolerating obstruction, chaos, or interference with federal officers doing their jobs. That balance—protecting rights while enforcing the law—is exactly how order is preserved and how a nation stays strong.
