A left-wing political initiative supporting Zohran Mamdani, the New York City mayoral candidate critical of Israel, is being led by a niece of a China-based billionaire known for financing radical groups in the U.S., according to the New York Post.
Alicia Singham Goodwin, 33, who serves as the political director of the progressive nonprofit Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, is at the helm of the “Jews for Zohran” campaign. The campaign aims to protect Mamdani from accusations of antisemitism and gain support from Jewish voters, the Post reported.
“We had our own voter file and phone banks targeting Jewish voters, with Jews talking to Jews,” Singham Goodwin said during a July 1 interview on WBAI radio, as reported by the Post. “We developed talking points about antisemitism and ways for volunteers to engage.”
The Jews for Zohran campaign is actively courting Jewish politicians such as Comptroller Brad Lander and Democratic New York Rep. Jerry Nadler to back Mamdani, while also seeking support from other prominent Jewish leaders, including Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer and Democratic New York Rep. Dan Goldman, according to the Post.
Former Queens Democratic City Councilman Rory Lancman criticized the campaign as “frightening,” pointing to Mamdani’s defense of the “globalize the Intifada” slogan, the Post reported.
“The demonization of Israel leads to demonization of Jews who support Israel, which is the overwhelming majority of U.S. Jews,” Lancman told the Post. He cautioned that securing endorsements from Jewish officials could normalize antisemitic views disguised as political discourse.
Singham Goodwin is the niece of Neville “Roy” Singham, a Marxist billionaire who moved to Shanghai after selling his software company Thoughtworks for $785 million in 2017 and has since funded groups aligned with Beijing’s agenda, the Post reported.
Alicia’s father, Daniel Goodwin, worked as counsel and executive at Thoughtworks. House Republicans have sought to question him about possible connections to groups involved in protests against immigration enforcement in Los Angeles, the Post reported.
Singham Goodwin herself is connected to other radical left organizations, including Code Pink, which was founded by her uncle’s wife, Jodie Evans, the Post reported.
