Man Spotted With Apparent High-Powered Firearm as Violent Anti-ICE Protests Escalate in Minneapolis

As anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis continue to spiral, a photo taken Saturday shows a man in downtown Minneapolis carrying what appears to be a high-powered firearm — because nothing says “peaceful protest” quite like brandishing serious firepower in the middle of a volatile crowd.

The image, captured by the Daily Caller News Foundation, comes amid a week of increasingly violent incidents tied to anti-ICE demonstrations. Attacks on journalists and federal agents have escalated, including a mob assault last Sunday that forced independent journalists Nick Sortor and Cam Higby to flee for their safety. Later in the week, an ambush left an ICE agent hospitalized.

According to FOX9 KMSP, a member of the Latin Kings allegedly broke into a supporting FBI vehicle and made off with a rifle before being arrested. That detail alone paints a clear picture of how far these protests have drifted from anything resembling lawful or orderly dissent.

Outside ICE headquarters in Minneapolis, the crowd has continued to grow, according to Daily Caller News Foundation reporter Jorge Ventura. As tensions rise, the Pentagon has reportedly prepared 1,500 troops for possible deployment to the city to help curb protests that have taken a violent turn. That’s not exactly a step taken when things are “mostly peaceful.”

Footage taken Saturday by Ventura shows an anti-ICE protester using a flagpole to assault a counterprotester, further underscoring the breakdown of basic public safety. Regular clashes between anti-ICE demonstrators and counterprotesters have prompted increased police presence, with around 30 protest-related arrests made since Jan. 7, according to a Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson.

The City of Minneapolis responded by releasing a video calling for “peaceful protest,” notably featuring anti-ICE signs in the background — a visual choice that many might find ironic given the level of violence already on display.

The protests erupted following the Jan. 7 shooting death of Renee Good, who allegedly attempted to run over an ICE agent with her car. Since then, what began as demonstrations has devolved into chaos, intimidation, and criminal behavior — the exact kind of disorder ICE exists to confront.

Despite the unrest, law enforcement continues to hold the line, journalists keep reporting, and federal authorities are prepared to step in if necessary. Order, accountability, and public safety still matter — and with continued resolve, Minneapolis can move back toward calm, lawful civic life where voices are heard without violence and communities are protected.
