President Donald Trump chose some outstanding leaders for his Cabinet, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent proved once again why he’s one of the best. Clear, sharp, and absolutely unafraid to confront the liberal media, Bessent walked into the New York Times DealBook Summit on Wednesday and delivered a public demolition of their favorite anti-Trump narratives — right to their faces.
Before he even warmed up, Bessent casually mentioned he no longer reads The New York Times, describing them as “just this fever swamp.” Ouch. Then he went straight for their latest attempt at spin — the suddenly popular “Trump fatigue” storyline — and completely obliterated it.
“I read this article, like ‘President Trump is slowing down. President Trump’s mental capacity –’ It is a hundred percent fake,” Bessent said. Then, with perfect comedic timing, he added: “He only called me twice at two in the morning last week instead of three times.”
In other words: the man is working nonstop, as usual. Not exactly the narrative the Times was hoping for.
Bessent didn’t stop there. He reminded the room — quite directly — about what he called “one of the greatest scandals of all time”: the media’s coverage of Joe Biden’s obvious decline and the active cover-up surrounding it.
“Where was The New York Times?” he demanded.
DealBook founder Andrew Ross Sorkin tried to save face, claiming that’s why it’s “fair” to bring up Trump’s health now — because they ignored Biden’s problems. Yes, really. The logic seems to be: We failed to scrutinize Biden, so now we’re overcorrecting by going after Trump — who doesn’t have the issues Biden had. Makes perfect sense… if you’re the New York Times.
But Bessent shut that down immediately. He pointed out that Trump had just held a three-hour Cabinet meeting the day before. Meanwhile, Biden went ten months without holding one at all.
“How are you going to invoke the 25th Amendment if the Cabinet secretaries never see the president?” Bessent asked.
Exactly. Biden held nine Cabinet meetings during his entire time in office — just one in 2024 — with reports that his own staff was isolating him from his Cabinet. Some Cabinet members said they were boxed out entirely.
Meanwhile, President Trump, in his second term, has already held nine — about one per month — all public, all energetic, all led directly by him while he simultaneously takes on the media.
Bessent capped it off with the knockout punch: “I hear from people in the Treasury building that I see President Trump more in a day than my predecessor saw Joe Biden in half a year!”
You could practically feel the burn spreading through the New York Times auditorium. At their own event, their own guest just handed them a reality check with the force of a sledgehammer.
And the best part? The truth is on the side of strength, leadership, and a president who actually shows up — and that’s something worth celebrating.
