A Minnesota Democratic Senate candidate, facing a tightening race, declared her commitment to bipartisanship this Sunday – only to immediately undermine her own rhetoric by refusing to name a single issue she would work on with President Donald Trump. Instead, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, the state’s Democratic nominee, defaulted to a familiar, politically charged attack, accusing the Trump administration of “continued grift.”
This revealing exchange, captured by Fox News’ Bill Melugin, lays bare the deep-seated partisan divide that defines Flanagan’s campaign against Republican challenger Michele Tafoya. While Flanagan attempts to project an image of cross-aisle cooperation, her actions and rhetoric consistently align with an agenda of pure obstruction against America First policies.

“I just want to be really clear that I’ve got a long track record of working with folks on the other side of the aisle,” Flanagan told Melugin. She cited her past work at the Children’s Defense Fund–Minnesota and her tenure in the state Legislature as proof. “I think that, you know, that proves that I have the ability to work with folks,” she insisted.
Yet, the moment the conversation turned to President Trump, that spirit of collaboration evaporated. When pressed to identify any policy common ground, Flanagan shifted directly to a well-worn attack line.
“Right now, I’m deeply concerned about the Trump administration, the continued grift, making money hand over fist directly from the Oval Office,” she stated, effectively shutting down any possibility of cooperation. Such a response not only contradicts her supposed bipartisan spirit but also highlights the radical left’s preference for political smears over tangible progress for American families.

Flanagan’s campaign strategy has been clear: position herself as an antagonist to the America First movement. She has publicly called for dismantling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), pushed for a socialist "Medicare for All" healthcare system, and vowed to reverse critical Medicaid and SNAP cuts. Apparently, working with the former President would be an unforgivable sin for her base, even if it meant delivering for Minnesotans.
She even went on to claim that voters on the campaign trail are more interested in someone who will be a “check” on Trump, rather than an ally. “They’re interested in whether people are going to be a check on this guy, and roll back some of the devastating cuts and impacts on Minnesota,” Flanagan concluded, solidifying her stance as an obstructionist.

Meanwhile, the Republican challenger, Michele Tafoya, a former NFL sideline reporter, has masterfully reframed the race. Tafoya has turned the spotlight onto the massive fraud scandal that erupted under the Walz administration, where Flanagan served as Lieutenant Governor. Tafoya argues, quite rightly, that Flanagan shares responsibility for the scandal, casting a shadow of accountability over her opponent’s record.

This conservative, common-sense approach is clearly resonating. The race has become unexpectedly competitive, with Fox News recently shifting its rating from “Likely Democrat” to “Lean Democrat.” Tafoya, a true independent thinker, stated, “The more that Minnesotans learn about me and my opponent and see what my opponent has failed to do over the last eight years alongside [Democratic Gov.] Tim Walz, they're understanding Minnesota needs change. We need fresh ideas, we need an independent thinker and they're jumping on board.”
While Flanagan desperately tries to tie Tafoya to President Trump, whose approval ratings in Minnesota are often misrepresented, Tafoya has shown a nuanced, pragmatic approach. “I’m a pro-choice Republican not afraid to stand up to my party,” Tafoya said in a new commercial, adding, “When Trump is right, I will work with him. When he is wrong, I will stand up for Minnesota.”

This measured stance highlights the intelligent, results-oriented leadership Tafoya embodies. Even amidst some internal party debate, President Trump himself recognized Tafoya’s strength, signaling his support at a recent Ohio rally. “You have to vote for Michele Tafoya, who’s a very respected person,” the President stated, underscoring that the America First movement champions principled leaders who prioritize their constituents. Minnesotans deserve a representative who works for them, not one beholden to partisan grandstanding and baseless accusations. Tafoya offers a path to accountability and common sense that Flanagan's empty bipartisan rhetoric simply cannot match.
