National Teachers Union Encouraging Student Walkouts and Pushing Anti-ICE Messaging

The nation’s largest teachers union is actively promoting student walkouts and spreading anti–Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) messaging, while also raising money around the issue.

Radio host Ari Hoffman highlighted the National Education Association’s (NEA) recent activism and fundraising efforts on Thursday, pointing to an email sent by the organization titled “Hold ICE Accountable and Prioritize Student, Community Safety.”

In the message, the NEA claims that ICE “will bring their brutality to other states unless we act,” and urges supporters to contact members of Congress using a pre-written form letter calling for restrictions on immigration enforcement operations.

The union’s messaging suggests that ICE agents routinely enter schools to remove children and place them in detention facilities. However, there is no evidence of such activity occurring, and ICE has not conducted school raids anywhere in the country.

Despite this, student walkouts protesting ICE have taken place in multiple cities nationwide, often with the involvement or encouragement of teachers and school administrators.

In Seattle, students participating in a walkout this week were seen engaging in acts of vandalism and property damage, escalating the protests beyond peaceful demonstration.

The NEA’s actions have drawn criticism from observers who argue the union is politicizing schools, misleading students about immigration enforcement practices, and encouraging disruptive behavior under the guise of activism.
