Poll Shows Voters Back Deporting Illegal Aliens by 2-to-1 Margin Ahead of 2026 Midterms

Turns out Americans still believe in laws. A new poll released Monday shows that nearly two-thirds of likely 2026 midterm voters support deporting illegal aliens from the United States — and not by a slim margin either. According to a Cygnal survey of 1,004 likely voters, 61 percent support removing illegal aliens and sending them back to their home countries, compared to just 34 percent who oppose it. That’s almost a 2-to-1 ratio, which in political math is called “not even close.”

The poll also found strong support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement doing its job. A majority of respondents said ICE should enforce federal immigration laws and remove illegal immigrants from the country, and 58 percent said they oppose efforts to defund the agency. Even swing voters agreed — which must be very inconvenient for politicians who think “abolish ICE” polls well.

Cygnal founder and CEO Brent Buchanan summed it up bluntly, saying voters see illegal immigration as a law-and-order issue. He said the data leaves “no wiggle room,” adding that Americans want the law enforced, illegal immigrants removed, and politicians punished when they try to block ICE. Imagine that — consequences.

The survey, conducted Jan. 27 and 28 with a margin of error of 3.09 percent, also found that 73 percent of respondents agreed that people who enter the United States without legal permission have broken the law. Only 22 percent disagreed. Apparently, most voters still understand what “illegal” means.

A majority of voters — 64 percent — said illegal immigration is a problem in America. And when it comes to politics, Democrats don’t fare well on this issue. While Democrats hold a narrow four-point lead on the congressional ballot, that advantage disappears if they move to defund ICE. If they go further and shut down the government over ICE funding, Republicans actually take the lead.

The poll also comes as left-wing activists ramp up attacks on ICE and President Trump’s deportation efforts, particularly in places like Minneapolis, where two agitators were killed after interfering with lawful enforcement operations. Those actions were encouraged by Democrat leaders, showing a sharp contrast with states like West Virginia and South Dakota, whose leaders have cooperated with federal authorities to uphold the law.

Taken together, the results send a clear message to President Trump and Republicans: voters support deporting illegal aliens and backing ICE, even when Democrats scream about it. Americans want order, safety, and laws that actually mean something.

And the good news? The numbers show the public is on the side of enforcement, not excuses — and that’s a winning position heading into 2026.
