In a shocking display of judicial recklessness, officials in Fairfax County, Virginia, deliberately released an illegal alien charged with horrific child sexual abuse crimes, brazenly ignoring a detainer lodged by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This unfathomable decision put innocent Americans at grave risk, a direct consequence of radical 'sanctuary' policies.
The individual, identified as Oscar Evaristo Nunez, an illegal alien from Honduras, was initially arrested and placed in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. His rap sheet is chilling: charges from last August include aggravated sexual battery by a parent involving a child between 13 and 17 years old, two counts of filming an undressed minor without consent, and two counts of aggravated sexual battery of a victim under 13 years old.
Despite the severity of these charges and the clear threat Nunez posed to the community, Fairfax County officials made the conscious choice to disregard ICE's legal detainer. This act of defiance allowed a dangerous predator to walk free, back into American neighborhoods, directly undermining federal law enforcement efforts to protect citizens.
Thankfully, the dedicated men and women of ICE swiftly rectified this local government failure. ICE agents subsequently tracked down and arrested Nunez, taking him off the streets after Fairfax County's inexplicable release.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin minced no words in his condemnation of Fairfax County's actions, calling out the hypocrisy and danger of sanctuary policies:
"Another criminal illegal alien has been taken off the streets by the brave men and women of ICE, with no help from sanctuary politicians in Fairfax County. This illegal alien from Honduras had been arrested for child sex crimes in August last year, but Fairfax County refused to honor ICE’s detainer and let this creep back out onto the streets. Once again, ICE did the job that these heartless sanctuary politicians won’t do: enforce the law and protect American lives. DHS is calling on Governor Abigail Spanberger and her fellow sanctuary politicians to stop putting the needs of illegal aliens over the safety of the American people."
Nunez's presence in the United States dates back to an illegal border crossing near Arizona around September 2003, highlighting a long-standing failure in border security that enabled his initial entry.
Currently, Nunez remains in ICE custody, where he will await deportation from the United States, a critical step toward ensuring he can no longer endanger American families. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the profound dangers posed by sanctuary city policies, which prioritize the comfort of illegal aliens—even those accused of heinous crimes—over the safety and security of American communities and the rule of law. It's a betrayal of public trust that demands accountability and an immediate end to such reckless practices across the nation.
